A busy couple of weeks for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes and Club Members in action at Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, Australian Paratriathlon and Intellectual Impairment Championships, Australian Marathon Canoe Championships,  Murrayman Triathlon, Triathlon Pink Sunshine Coast and Australian Super Sprint Youth and Junior Triathlon Championships.

The Gold Coast was the venue for the following Australian Championship events over the past few weeks with the Australian Paratriathlon and Intellectual Impairment Championships were held at Runaway Bay over the Super Sprint distance of 350/9/2.2 on the technical circuit on the Luke Harrop Track. Wet track wasn't ideal, but Grace Brimelow had a great race to take out the National Women's Title in the PTS3 division. Triathlon Australia has earmarked her as future potential PAraTriathlete and taking out the National title has put her on that radar.

Australian Marathon Canoe Championships over the 14.8km where Elke Madlener 2nd (U/16 K2) Silver Medalist and 6th (U/16 K1). The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships saw Saul Nicol Rann Crowned the Australian U/17 2km Beach Run Champion, while Janelle McCosker claimed a Bronze 60-64 Years 2km Swim and 5th Board. Millan Power claim 5th U/15 2 x 1km Beach Relay.

To round out the competitions on the Gold Coast was the Australian Super Sprint Youth and Junior Triathlon Championships. This 3 day event showcases the ability to react and learn with each race and see a progression from day 1 to day 3. This was evident once again this year. Millan Power (Youth) and Addison Houslip (Rookie) both first timers to this format and gain some valuable experience from this race weekend that will be use at future attempts not just at this race, but racing in general.

Addie stamped her authority in the female sections and gave the boys a run for their money based on race times with 3 race wins from 3 events. While Millan Power learnt the consequences of racing the World Triathlon Style formats and the rules that go with it. Even in the Youth "B" Final where he finished 3rd, he still had to serve a penalty for crossing the dismount line (we know he won't do that again).

Emily Barrett lined up in the MurrayMan Triathlon over the 1.5/45/10 where she showed a dominate display taking out the Overall Female Win and U/40 Female. she was 14th Overall amongst the guys. The finish line photo shows she left nothing in the tank and enjoy the OD distance.

Sunshine Coast was the stage for Triathlon Pink where the main focus is on raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, but we had  a few racing as well. In the Ultra, Elke Madlener 2nd (14 Years) and 8th Overall. In the Kids 10-13 Kowsik Kuppusamy 3rd, Billie Elsum 4th and Issak Young 5th. in the 3km Run Wade Wallis Race Winner while Marc Wallis was 4th. In the Females Billie Eslum 2nd and Chloe Turner was 3rd.

A massive thanks to all the SCTA crew that volunteered their time to help out at this great event.

Great racing from the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes and Club Members in action at Luke Harrop Memorial Gold Coast Triathlon and Goondiwindi Hell of the West.

We were greeted with perfect conditions for the Luke Harrop Memorial Gold Coast Triathlon, which meant fast and furious racing. Starting off the proceedings was the Oceania Cup Triathlon with automatic qualification for the Winners for Commonwealth Games. Sophie Burger lined up for her first ever Elite Female Race at this level. the pace was on from the get go and a great swim set up the opportunity to get in with some good riders in the pack over the draft legal format, that saw her come off the bike with the leading females. Sophie ran strongly to finish a credible 24th. An amazing experience that Sophie will gain confidence from for future racing.

In the Age Group racing it doubled as the Triathlon Queensland Sprint Championships as well. Kim Alexander 1st (50-54) and Greg Bush 1st (65-69) both crowned State Champions. 2nd Place to Jordan Gover (50-54) and Brett Stalley (55-59) both silver State Medalists. Receiving Bronze Medals in the Qld Champs was Kyle Wallis (16-17), Angela Vinnicombe (40-44) and Pauline Ashley (45-49).

In the Enticer, which also doubled as the U/14 Qld Sprint Champs saw Addison Houslip continued her great form to take the Overall Female Line honours, U/14 Title and State Champion.

Lauren Murphy took the 5hr road trip out the the annual Goondiwindi Hell of the West which saw the swim leg moved to the duck pond due to the recent flooding that saw the McIntyre River too dirty to swim in. The format was 2km Swim, 3.2km Run, 80km Cycle and then a 16.8km Run. Lauren had a strong swim to set a good position that she could build on during the race. We are in the first steps of her build to Cairns Ironman so it was a good indication to see where we are at with the training. She had a good day out where she came away with a 3rd 40-44 and 25th Female Overall.
