QTS # 5 Robina Triathlon (Australian OD Team Selection Race)

What a tough weekend of racing for Round # 5 of the Queensland Triathlon Series at Robina. Very hot and humid conditions greeted the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes. Water temp of 29.5 degrees, outside temp nudging 36 degrees made for some hot, fast and furious racing with athletes trying to gain valuable points for the Olympic Distance Australian Age Group Team for the World Championships.

In the Open's we had SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder Jake Hynes up against some seasoned Professionals which was going to make it tough racing. Every race he gains valuable experience that he will take into rounds 2, 3 and 4 of the National Junior Series. A 3rd place today and some play money for the effort. Kirra Seidel had a great race return from injury where she took out line honours in the Open Female.

Wins in their respective age groups and maximum points went to Lucy Bowden (25-29), Brett Stalley (55-59) and Brodie Gardner (30-34), while Anastasia Heikkila (16-19) and Kate Schultz (30-34) just miss the win with 2nd places. Just missing the podium was Matt Wolstencroft 4th (45-49) with other top 10 results to Olivia Latimer 6th (35-39), Pauline Ashley 7th (45-49) and Sharlene Leeson 9th (40-44). All in all nearly every athlete that raced in the Olympic Distance gained points towards selection.

In the Super Sprint, SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder Romy Wolstencroft, continued her great form with the overall Female Race Win, 16-19 years win and finishing 22nd overall amongst the Males. It was a building race for Romy leading into Race # 2 of the National Junior Series in Adelaide on 3rd/4th February. Tania Gover 1st (40-44) had another great race and warmed up cheering all the crew on in the OD. The Turner family had a run of 2nd's with both Chloe (25-29) and Gary (65-69) on the podium. While it was great to see Kaya Shults 3rd (16-19) back racing with some form and coming home strongly in the run.

It was a great day out for all the SCTA Juniors of Ryan Marsh, Kayleigh Foster, Jazzy Shults, Emma and Jack Dann, that raced in the Super Sprint with most of them building for Queensland Schools Triathlon Champs  which are to be held in 5 weeks time. Some great results and a learning experience for the major race in a few weeks.

On Saturday we saw the Enticer and Kool Kids along with open water swims. In the Enticer we saw Scott Marsh 19th (U/14 Male) and Zoe Davis 25th (U/14 Female) continue to grow and develop with their racing. Always hard racing up against older athletes but the skills and development is coming which is great to see.

While in the Kool Kids, Finn Barlow (10-11) and Parker Duetzmann (7-9) continued their dominance of their respective categories with race wins. Finn was the fastest female overall in the Kool Kids and 10th place outright amongst the boys, One place in front of Parker who finished 9th overall. Pipi Barlow had another great race for 5th (7-9). Bonnie Cathcart, Maddison and Hugo Cattle all had strong races.

Mia Davis had a race to forget. Her front wheel punctured 3 times before the event. We finally got it to stay up with a few patches as the spare tube they had punctured as well. Once she got out onto the bike the wheel went down, but she continued to push on and finish the race in 39th Place (7-9). A true display of not giving up and getting to the finish line. Well done Mia

while in the Open Water swim on the Saturday afternoon Ryan Marsh lined up in the 500m and narrowly missed the win with a 2nd place overall.

Well done to all that raced and full Results Below
