A massive weekend of action for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at QTS # 3 and Triathlon Queensland Aquathlon Championships at Lake Kawana, Hamilton Island Triathlon, Hervey Bay 100 and Wide Bay Schools Trials, Challenge Taiwan - Asia Pacific Championships and Ironman Arizona.
Round # 3 of the Queensland Triathlon Series was held on Sunday at Lake Kawana. With a storm that rolled thru the night before and a southerly change, conditions were totally different from the day before at the Aquathlon Champs, in which we had 11 athletes backing up. SCTA had 30 athletes racing with 9 podiums, 15 in the top 5 in their respective categories. In the Sprint Distance, we had 5 females in the top 20 females, and in the Males, 3 in the top 13.
SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holders Peyton Craig and Macey Roberts were in action. Macey had 2 great days of racing with a 4th 16-17 Aquathlon and on Sunday was 7th 16-19 years. Peyton Craig made it 2 wins from 2 races taking out the Enticer Overall win and in U/14 Years
Lucy Bowden continued her strong showing in the OPEN females with a 4th place in a very competitive field, while Jake Hynes had his first race back from shin soreness with a 5th OPEN males. Gary Turner made up from the disappointment at Noosa with a broken chainring to take out the 70-74 title. Rebecca Howell in her first ever Triathlon took out the 20-24 Enticer, Tania Gover made it 2 x 2nd Places 40-44 over the weekend. While Ryan Marsh filled the podium with a 3rd 14-15 and 13th Overall.
We had a few that just missed the podiums with 4th place to Ella Wooldridge (16-19) and in 5th place we had Kaya Shults (16-19), SCTA Sponsor Stratton Finance Mooloolaba's Grant Elliot (Clydesdale), Mia Wooldridge (U/14). While in 6th Place we had Emma Hogan (35-39), Pipi Barlow (10-11) and Mia Davis (7-9).
SCTA Club members at QTS # 3 in action included Romy Wolstencroft who won her 2nd Title at Kawana in 3 years wining the Female race. Brodie Gardner landed on the podium with 3rd Open Males while Paul Marchant taking out the 25-29 category and Jasmyne Coventry was 2nd 16-19
Challenge Taiwan incorporating the Asia Pacific Champs, saw Marion Tuin line up for her debut Professional Race. Up against some of the best Female Pro's running around, Marion had a solid debut race in very warm and humid conditions to finish 4th Pro Female
ON a very fast and flat course in Arizona for the Ironman, SCTA Club Member Carrie Lester led off the bike and halfway thru the Marathon before being overtaken by the eventual winner. Carrie finished 2nd Professional Female and was 14th Overall amongst the Pro Male.
The Hervey Bay 100 saw SCTA Club Member Simon Hearn take the Race Title in the OPEN Males, while Katie Kenny (40-44) took out her category win.
In Langkawi for the 70.3, Michaella Trigg had a great day out taking out the 50-54 Years Female and 22nd Female Overall
Lake Kawana was the venue for the Triathlon Queensland Aquathlon Champs where SCTA recorded 6 medalists with 3 of them being crowned State Champions. In very warm and humid conditions all the crew performed extremely well. SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holder Peyton Craig, took out the State title in the U/14 Years Male along with Romy Wolstencroft (18-19) and Jasmyne Coventry (16-17). With Silver Medals was Ella Wooldridge (16-17), Chloe Turner (25-29) and Tania Gover (40-44).
In Hervey Bay, the Wide Bay Schools Region trials for the Triathlon that will be competing at the Qld Schools Triathlon Champs in Hervey Bay on 7th-9th March 2019. Jericho Pogany continues to improve with each race as a relative newcomer to Triathlon where he finished 4th Place Intermediate Male
SCTA Club Member and 2016 Olympian Ryan Fisher led from start to finish to claim the annual Hamilton Island Triathlon.
The pervious weekend saw Kate Gazzard and Tim Jarrold head to Byron Bay for the Freedom Trail Run. Kate lined up in the 50km event where she took the Female Title out and was 5th Overall. Tim lined up in the 13km event to finish 17th Open Male.
Also in action was Ryan Marsh at Kurnell Triathlon that was a selection race for the Australian Age Group Sprint Team. Ryan went looking for some points and gained a few in the process in winning the 14-15 Years.
