Byron Bay Triathlon and Xterra Malaysia in Langkawi were happy hunting grounds for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Hybrid Concepts Australia Athletes with some awesome results from the weekend of racing.

Brodie Gardner headed to Xterra Malaysia which saw him highly place in the Asia Pacific Xterra Tour standings and a good race here guaranteed points to lift him into the Tour rankings. A very hot and humid day greeted the athletes. Brodie had a solid swim and was in chase mode on the bike and run. In a very strong field, Brodie battled his way to 5th place and secured some more points on the Tour which saw him just missed 3rd place by 2 points to be 4th on the Tour which saw him get his first win and podium spots this year.

It’s been a very long season for Brodie with training full time and running his business Intune Sports and Health. In a season that saw a lot of first with the race win and podiums in the Xterra off road triathlons, and securing a place on the Elite team for ITU Cross Triathlon World Champs. Enjoy the rest Brodie. Well-deserved after a very successful season.

There were 13 SCTA athletes toe the line at the Byron Bay triathlon were some great results were recorded. Weather was perfect for the afternoon race which saw the first wave hit the water at Noon.

Leading the charge in the Olympic Distance was Michael Hooper (20-24) who was 4th across the line overall and taking out his category. Also taking out the Category Wins were Matt Wolstencroft (45-49) 12th Overall, Alexandra Barnes (16-19), Malin Olson (Open) was 5th and Kevin Hammond (35-39) rounded the results out with a 6th place.

In the Sprint Distance, Romy Wolstencroft (16-17) dominated the female field to take out overall female line honours and the win in her category, it was great for the Coach Toby Coote (40-44) to get out have a bit off fun in the Old Man Category with 2nd place while Angie Hammond (35-39) was in 10th place.

In the Tempta Distance, Kayleigh Foster (12-13) rounded out the 2nd Overall Female Race win for the day for the SCTA girls taking the Race title and category win, while Ryan Marsh (12-13) was 2nd and 4th overall.

While the Aquathlon wasn’t timed but the 2 Hammond Amigo’s (Jake and Zak) lined up to race extremely well. It was a great weekend for all that raced.
