Race Updates

Last race of 2020 has been run and the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy Athletes and Club Members performed extremely well in very cyclonic conditions over the weekend.

At Raby Bay for Round # 4 of the Queensland Triathlon Series saw wet roads and plenty of crashes. A small contingent of SCTA Athletes in action. In the Long Course we saw the consistency of Rebecca Howell on the podium again with 2nd (25-29) and Steve Miller 4th (60-64).

Runaway Bay was home for the Annual Super Sprint Race Weekend and this event always has a weather element to this race. This year was no exception with the rain coming in Saturday and postponing the cycle leg on Sunday in the triathlon that changed it to a Run (800m) Swim (400m) Run (1500) for the Finals. Friday saw 1500m Run TT (800m Rookies), 8km Individual Cycle TT (6km Rookies) and an Aquathlon 400m Swim 800m Run (200m / 800m Rookies) where the Run + Cycle + 400m Swim from the aqutahlon added together to give an overall TT time for the handicap triathlon on the Saturday morning over a 300m Swim / 8km Cycle / 1.5km Run

From a Coaching point of view, I do enjoy the multiple racing element as it throws up scenarios and gives the athletes a chance to get feedback, jump into the next race and then implement and improve on the skill and race element to each race. Both Sophie Burger and Torah Rose (both first time Juniors) were able to put that execution into these races throughout the weekend and we saw the benefits and improvements with each race. Sophie made it thru the the Junior Female "A" Final where she was 14th, while Torah Rose was in the Junior Female "B" Final where she executed a very strong swim to make her way thru the field to finish of with a 7th. In the Rookies saw Sam McClarron race down here for the first time as well and was up against some big boys that have had some growth spurts, but gave it his all and learnt some valuable race experience and implementation of some feedback from each race where he finished 10th Rookie Final.

SCTA Club Members in Action race extremely well with former SCTA Junior Scholarship Holders Peyton Craig 2nd (Junior Male "A" Final), Ryan Marsh 15th (Junior Male "A" Final) and Ella Wooldridge (12th Junior Female "A" Final). Other SCTA Club Members included Georgie Fredricks 7th (Junior Female "A" Final) and Jazi Coventry 11th (Junior Female "A" Final) while Mia Wooldridge 4th (Youth Female "A" Final). Both Ethan and Callum Close didn't start the Final Races on Sunday but performed well in the 2 days prior. Scroll down to the full results you will see the entire results from the 3 days of racing.

In the Super Sprint, Olympic Hopeful for PNG Rachel James continued her consistency in training and landed on the podium with a 2nd (35-39). In the Enticer, Jayden James continues to improve with a 8th (U/14) while Flinders Crawford completed his first ever triathlon with a huge smile for 18th (U/14)

In the Kool Kids we had Billie Elsum 6th (7-9), Mia Foreman 13th (7-9) and Ava Foreman 19th (10-11).

The week earlier down at the GC 50 Run Festival, Courtney Akrigg smiled her way in the 50km Run for a 16th (30-39) while in the 3km Female Race Mia Foreman 35th, Ruby Foreman 39th and Ava Foreman 47th. While at the Beerwah at Daybreak Trail Run saw Overall Race Wins to SCTA Club Members  Simon Hearn (10km 20-29), Lucy Bowden (10km 20-29) and Lachlan Kerin (Half Marathon 20-29)
