Another busy weekend of racing for the The Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy Athletes and Club Members in action at QTS # 7 Raby Bay Triathlon, Huskisson Triathlon doubling as the Australian Long Course Champs and in Devonport for the Australian Elite + Junior Sprint Champs and Mixed Relay Champs.

Firstly at Raby Bay where the conditions were perfect for racing, no breeze and very humid conditions made for super fast racing. In the Long Course over 900/25/6, we saw Emily Donker and Sophie Burger exit the water together in the Open Female, Emily put the pressure on the bike to lead off the bike with Sophie about 40 secs down. Both Ladies ran well to finish 1st and 2nd respectively. It was Sophie's first podium and payday in the Open Field. 

Jordan Gover (45-49) and Kim Alexander (50-54) both had strong races to take out Age Group Wins. SCTA Club Members 2016 Rio Olympian Ryan Fisher stamped his authority on the OPEN Men's field with a strong win while Taylor Elms (30-34) took out his category with the win. 

In the Super Sprint was great to see Jazi Coventry 1st (16-19) back for her first race of 2021. Rachel James 1st (35-39) had a strong race after battling the flu. Rob Burger 2nd (55-59) landed on the podium as to Father / Daughter Team of Chloe and Gary Turner 2nd ( Mixed Teams).

Down at Husky for the Australian Long Course Champs saw SCTA Club Member Simon Hearn record a great win in the ELITE Male against a red hot quality field.

Down in Devonport for the Australia Elite and Junior Sprint Champs saw SCTA Club Members perform well with Kelly Ann Perkins 2nd ( ELITE Female). Just missing the podium in the Juniors were Georgie Fredricks 4th ( Female) and Peyton Craig 5th ( Male). The next day saw the Mixed Team Relays where Kelly Ann Perkins gain another silver medal in the Elite's while in the Juniors Georgie Fredricks 2nd while Peyton Craig and Ella Wooldridge 3rd

Over the last 2 weekends the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes and Club Members have been in action at various races including the Queensland Schools Triathlon Championships at Hervey Bay, Bribie Triathlon Race # 3, World Swim Series Noosa Swim and Dalby Triathlon.

Queensland Schools Triathlon has always held a strong tradition with SCTA Athletes and Coach Toby Coote. This was the 18th year at these championships, for 17 straight years Toby has had at least one athlete selected into the Qld Team and this year the tradition continued when Sophie Burger qualified for the Qld Team. In Total we had 5 Qualify in the Triathlon and 2 in the Aquathlon. Making the overall total for 18 years with 65 selected

There were some great races across the board, and a few of the athletes were racing at these championships for the first time and did a great job and learnt from the experience at racing at these championships. As mentioned above Sophie Burger 5th (Intermediate Female) qualified as to Addison Houslip 2nd (Primary Aquathlon Female) Torah Rose, Jorja Matthews, Ella Crawford, Saul Nicol Rann, Sam McClarron, Jake Hammond, Tabitha Fraser, Wade Wallis and Zak Hammond will all take a lot out of this racing that will be used in the future

SCTA Club Members that made the Team include Peyton Craig 1st (Intermediate Male), Ethan Close 2nd (Intermediate Male), Jude Brimelow 2nd ( Primary Aquathlon Male) Callum Close 8th (Intermediate Male) and Erin Wooldridge 8th (Senior Female). Special mention to Grace Brimelow who rode the bike course with a flat tyre showed some true grit to finish.

World Swim Series at Noosa had great conditions for the athletes over the 5km, 3km and 2km swims. In the 5km Gaye Ottagalli 6th (50-54) and SCTA Club Member Deb Thorley 11th (45-49). In the 3km Duanne Cannell 1st (50-54) with Chris Askew just missing the podium 4th (45-49). both with 7th places was Angela Vinnicombe (40-44) and Kim Alexander (50-54). In the 2km Swim, Ella Crawford 5th (10-15)

Round 3 of the Bribie Triathlon Series over the long course of 1/28/8 saw Jordan Gover 1st (45-49) and Alex Forrest 6th (25-29) SCTA Club Members Matthew Wolstencroft 1st (50-54) and Gary Turner 2nd (70-74). While in the Short Course 300/10/3 saw Addison Houslip 1st (11-12) and Marilyn Shrapnel 1st (70-74)

Out at Dalby Triathlon SCTA Club Members, Lucy Bowden 1st (30-39) and Lachlan Kerin 1st (20-29) both took out the respective Female and Male Race Wins.

The Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes and Club Members toed the line last weekend for the first race of 2021 at QTS # 6 Caloundra Triathlon and the 30th Anniversary of The Hell Of West at Goondiwindi. Some great results across the board

At Caloundra for Race # 6 of the Queensland Triathlon Series in very warm and humid conditions with a light breeze. In the Sprint Distance we saw Sophie Burger (14-15) take out her category win and building nicely for the Qld Schools Tri Champs. On the podium in 2nd Place was Jackie Phillips (35-39), Jordan Gover (45-49) and Kim Alexander (50-54) with Ingi Doyle (50-54) rounding out the podiums with a 3rd. Just missing the podium with 4th Places were Kevin Hammond (Clydesdale) and Steve Miller (60-64) while Keith Campbell (35-39) was 5th.

SCTA Club Members on the podium included Matthew Wolstencroft (50-54) and Paul Marchant (25-29) in 1st, while Taylor Elms 2nd (30-34) and just missing the podium was Ella Wooldridge 4th (16-19) and Ryan Marsh 5th (16-19).

In the Enticer most of the juniors are backing for Qld Schools Triathlon Champs this week with Ella Crawford 7th (U/16) and Sam McClarron 9th (U/14) with SCTA Club Members both in 3rd Mia Wooldridge (U/16) and Erin Wooldridge (16-19)

In the Kool Kids Billie Elsum continued her strong racing in 6th (7-9) as too Bella McClarron 16th (10-11).

Out at Hell of the West for the 30th running of this iconic event saw Emily Donker (Swim + Cycle) Team up with Caroline Lean to take out the Female Teams Title. Both Brodie Gardner (Open Male) and Ashleigh Hunter (Open Female) both take out 6th Places. SCTA Club Member Simon Hearn (Open Male) had a ding dong battle up front to come away with 2nd Place
