What can say. This has to be one of the best years of results that we have had for a long time. The hard work has been rewarded for both the athletes and the Coach. I am beyond excited to see what next year entails as this group of athletes that we have, makes it very exciting to get out of bed each morning and do what I love.
I’ll be honest in the past 1.5 years I have had doubts about continuing with Coaching. I looked at a job in Hong Kong with the Institute of Sport. It was a great opportunity. As of the day after Worlds I was gone. I would of taken the job, but I sat back analysed it a bit and then talked to a lot of people. I was looking at coaches that could possibly take on my role and continue what I have done for the past 16 years. Fast forward and I decided not to take the role. One of the main factors was the great group of athletes and sponsors that I have that have supported what I do. That was September last year. I am glad I didn’t go and put my head down and worked bloody hard with the athletes to achieve what we did this season. An achieve yes we did Personally for me I was awarded a Certificate of Merit for my contribution to sport on the Sunshine Coast at the Hall of Fame Awards Induction and was named Triathlon Queensland Junior Coach of the Year 2018-19 (ironically I was awarded the same award 10 years ago). I was selected by Triathlon Queensland for the National Junior Camp in January and was awarded a Coaching Grant thru Triathlon Queensland. It has taken SCTA 16 years in Junior Coaching to walk away with a National Schools Triathlon Champion. We had gone close on a few occasions, but this year we walked away with 2. There is some talent in an amongst our junior athletes and it is very exciting to see what will come and be achieved in the next 3-4 years. Another reason for staying and doing what I do with SCTA. This is a breakdown of what we have achieved in the last 6 months Australian Championships Events – 35 Medallists
Year of results 2018-19 Season included World Championships on the Gold Coast Results and break down as followed
The next season will see quite a few athletes trying to qualify for the 2020 World 70.3 Champs being held in Taupo NZ. I will continue to develop the Juniors and the rest of the Age Group / Professional Athletes. It will be a very busy season once again but the planning and preparation has already begun. Once again this doesn’t happen without the support from the sponsors of SCTA. I am grateful for the support that I do receive from them and look forward to continuing the results and growth that we are seeing within SCTA for the 2019-20 Season
