What an amazing bunch of Juniors Athletes the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium has.  The way in which all the SCTA Juniors handled themselves throughout the racing here is a true testament to the hard work and dedication that has been laid during the winter base and we are seeing the results from this.

From a Coaches point of view there is still plenty of work to do on the development of each of you all, but the way in which you conducted yourselves is a true resemblance on the character of each and every one.

The SCTA Junior Scholarship holders Romy Wolstencroft and Jake Hynes and Scott and Ryan Marsh, Macey and Meg Roberts, Peyton Craig, Kayleigh Foster, Jazzy Shults and Seth James. Well one to each one of you on your performances over the past 4 days.

All 4 days of racing was held in very warm, humid and tough conditions when the wind picked up in the afternoon. The aim is to gain as many points as possible to get yourself into the “A” Final where they took 16 athletes. The “B” Final had 17-32 and the “C” Final was 33-49.
The racing schedule for Youth “A” and Youth “B” raced over 5 races as followed
Thursday
Race # 1 - 1500m Track Run
Friday
Race # 2 – Criterium – 200m Run / 4km Cycle / 200m Run
Race # 3 – Aquathlon – Youth “B “ 400m Swim / 1.2km Run / Youth “A” 200m Swim / 1.2km Run
Saturday
Race # 4 – Triathlon -  200m Swim / 4km Cycle / 1.2km Run

A big thanks to all the families involved that has made my job so much easier. A massive thanks to Peter Marsh for setting the tents up and making sure all the SCTA Team had shade for the last 4 days over some very warm and humid days.

Report on each of the Juniors that competed over the 4 days of action

Romy Wolstencroft - Your willing to learn and progress is the reason you are so dominant in your racing at the moment. When you stuff up, you did it well this weekend, but your character is defined by how you overcome those disappointments and the way you move forward. The 6th and final race of the weekend showcased when you get it right, you get it right. To take out the final in such convincing form shows the hard work that has been put in for the past 2 years. Your dedication to becoming one of the best is a true pleasure to coach

Jake Hynes - 4 years ago you started in the “C” Final in your first attempt…. Step forward 4 years and you toed the line in the “A” Final. The progression and development from that day has been huge. Plenty of ups and downs and that was evident in the racing. But the old Jake would have let it upset the outcome of the race. The composure that you showed over the past 4 days of racing is a testament to how far you have come, the hard work that has been laid. For the start of the campaign we are in a good space. Keep up the great work. It will happen

Jazzy Shults - What can I say. The eye of the tiger came out this afternoon in the Youth B "A" Final she took the race to the girls and was spent by the end. There was nothing left in the tank. What you did over the past 3 days shows the hard work that you have put in over the past couple of months.

Peyton Craig - First time competing here and at the bottom of the age group. The way you built thru the 3 days coming over the disappointment of day 1 and executed thru each race and to see the progression and results flow.

Macey Roberts - One tenacious competitor right here. You got a sniff in the C final and that was it. They couldn't run you down. For someone that does a majority of their training via program with your sister and visits to the SCTA team in school holidays. The commitment, positive attitude and the willing to improve and listen, makes my job as a coach so much easier.

Ryan Marsh - always hard stepping into the bottom of an age category where you are racing some giants that have grown and developed way faster than you have. You may have given up a ton of strength and power, but you counteracted that with the skills that you have perfected over the past 2 seasons. Just hang in there and you will see the results in the years to come as you grow and develop. I know there was disappointment but it gives you a chance to better prepare for the future and development.

Kayleigh Foster aka shorty, first time competing at this level and this race weekend. The attitude that you show is a testament to the character that you are. You raced hard, with a smile on your face. This was a great learning experience, that will further enhance you as an athlete.

Scott Marsh - First time at this race weekend which was a massive eye opener for you. Not one of the fastest guys out there but you got in there and had a great go at it. The skills shone out. The way you finished off the run in the final shows the hard work that you have been putting in over the past couple of months.

Seth James PNG - First Ever Pacific Island Nation to line up in this race. The way you handled yourself over the 3 days is a testament to yourself, your country and your Coach Rachel James. The progression we saw from each race to race # 5 saw a massive leap that will further enhance the future that you will have in this sport. Well done.

Meg Roberts - Time and time again you get in there and have a good go at it. Unfortunately, a previous ankle issue has flared up and won't allow you to race the Junior "C" Final tomorrow. A big year with grade 12 completed. But you raced out today with true grit and determination to finish off well. Rest up as more is to come
