A big weekend of racing for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes and Club Members in action at Cairns for the Ironman and 70.3, Gold Coast Oceania Cup, Mackay Marina Run and Brisbane Marathon Run Festival. The week Prior at the Sunshine Coast Trail Run
Up in Cairns for the IM and 70.3 saw so tough conditions with the wind whipping up in true Cairns fashion that saw a block headwind from the turnaround point back into town. Temperatures where ideal for great racing. Both Emily Barrett 5th (18-24) and Angela Vinnicombe 7th (40-44) both were lining up in their debut Ironman and both had great days out with both sub 12hr races. Zsolt Dallos 2nd (40-44) had a blinder of a race and showed the hard work had paid off with a sub 9hr. while to 2 amigos of Tara Partridge and Tania Gover had a fun day out dressed as "where is Wally". Margo Mackintosh did a run leg in the 70.3 Teams to take out the Female Title and 8th Team overall.
Up in Mackay for their running festival, Emily Donker was 3rd (OPEN Female) in the 8km while in Brisbane for the Running Festival saw in the Half Marathon both Keith Campbell and Ingi Doyle with PB's. In the 5km Sophie Burger 1st (14-15) broke the 20 min barrier with a 19.23 for the first time and Addison Houslip 1st (U/13) with a 17.33 and fastest female. The week prior, Margo Mackintosh 1st (40-49) and first Female Overall in the Sunshine Coast Trail Run.
SCTA Club Members had some great races as well with Simon Hearn continuing his improving performances with a 4th (Pro Male) against a stellar Male Field in the Ironman Asia Pacific Championships. In the 70.3 Romy Wolstencroft 1st (18-24) and Matt Wolstencroft 1st (50-54) had awesome performances that saw Matt get bragging rights over Romy. Down at the Gold Coast Brittany Dutton was 7th (Pro Female) in the Gold Coast Oceania Cup. In Brisbane we saw Taylor Elms 2nd (30-39) 10km Run
