A massive weekend of racing with the 25th running of the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival and National Masters Swimming Championships on the Gold Coast. Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes recorded some great results over the weekend.

The 25th running of the Mooloolaba Triathlon put on a show once again with light winds but warm and humid conditions. We saw a lot of great bike times due to the light winds but the warm conditions on the run leg took its toll. With Australian Olympic Distance Medals on the line, SCTA athletes walked away with 3 of them (4 if Mel had of been a TA member)

Leading the Australian Medal haul was Jake Hynes 2nd Tri Australia / 3rd 15-19 Years, while both Zsolt Dallos (35-39) and Maureen Cummings (55-59) both finished 3rd Tri Australia and Category. Melissa Charlton had a great race with 2nd 35-39 Female.

Michael Hooper just missed the podium with a 4th place 20-24. Also placing in the top 10 in their respective categories were, Belinda Seccombe 7th 40-44, Rebecca Ungermann 8th 25-29 and Rachel James 10th Open Female. Well done to all the SCTA athletes that raced.

SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship holder, Kaya Shults, took out the 1000m Ocean Swim in the Open Female and claimed $450 for her troubles in an M shape course with some swell. Peyton Craig claimed the win in the U/13 Males as well.

While at the Twilight Run on the Friday, under perfect conditions for running, we saw a great turnout from the SCTA Crew with Chloe Turner taking out the 20-29 title, podium places for 3rd went to Meg Roberts (16-19) and Jazzy Shults (U/16) with Macey Roberts (U/16) just missing the podium in 4th.

It was great to see Sam Penny pick up a few medals (1 x Gold, 3 x Silver and 3 x Bronze) and some PB's at the National Masters Swimming Champs on the Gold Coast. Hard to believe that a few years back Sam had some chronic back pain and turned to swimming to strengthen and relieve the pain. Fast forward and he has some bling to show for the hard work.
