Another big weekend for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes in action at New Zealand Ironman, Australian Junior Series Race # 4 in Perth, The finale of the Bribie Island Triathlon Series with Race # 4 and Mooloolaba Mile Swim.
Over in the West, Ryan Marsh - SCTA / Protector Aluminium Scholarship holder, was in action at Race # 4 of the National Junior Series. With a 6th, 3rd and a 2nd in the series so far, Race # 4 was double points and end of the series. After a strong swim Ryan was in the 2nd pack on the cycle leg but couldn't close the gap to Series Leader Col Curry (QLD).
Ryan had been running well in the previous races he has been in and today was no exception. Once the Mizuno run shoes were on he left the group behind and started chasing Col down. Unfortunately he ran out of road to finish 2nd place in ITU Youth B and take out 2nd place in the series as well.
Mooloolaba Beach was the perfect setting for the Annual Mooloolaba Mile Ocean Swim. With a small wave to make the swim in interesting Peyton Craig led the charge taking out the win 8-12 Years 800m, while Kevin Hammond continued his recovery from shoulder operation lining up in the mile with a 10th place finish 35-39 Years.
At Bribie Island Tri for the finale of the 4 race series, under perfect conditions for racing, Marilyn Shrapnel led the charge amongst the results taking out the win in 65-69 years, While Jessica Lee has podium in all 4 races with 3rd yesterday in 30-34 Years (series tally of 2 x 2nd and 2 x 3rd places). While in the Open Categories Chris George (4th Male) and Rebecca Ungermann (5th Female) rounded out he results from SCTA Athletes.
Lastly the series results are up from the QTS with SCTA athletes securing 2 x 1st, 2 x 2nd and 3 x 3rd. Also SCTA as a club finished in 6th place behind clubs that had a larger number of participants than we did. So as a whole I am very happy with the QTS series and athlete performances from 2016-17 Season.
