It has been a busy couple of weeks for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector aluminium Athletes and Coaches. This is a combination of races from the past 3 weeks plus the naming of the preliminary Australian Age Group Team for the upcoming World Championships on the Gold Coast in September for the Olympic and Sprint Distance events.

The Commonwealth Games lived up to all expectations and more. With SCTA athlete Rachel James (PNG) and Coach Toby Coote in attendance. While it was very hectic in the lead up to the race and opening ceremony, it was also a great experience. Race day started with a 5.45am bike drop off for the truck, then some breakfast and a bus ride to the race venue at Southport Broadwater.

The females got the perfect conditions for racing opposed to the rain that greeted the Males. Rachel had all her warm up procedures done and then it was race time. Rachel nailed the start and hit the water first. She had a good swim to exit the water not far from a few other athletes. She rode a few down and after the 3rd lap she knew she wasn't going to get caught and fist pumped the crowd to which she got a massive applause.

Out onto the run, it took a lap for her to get going but once she did Rachel finished it off well. A nice sprint finish with the lady from Trinidad and Tobago saw her get the applause form the crowd and finish in 20th spot. To think 4 years ago she got lapped out of the race. There was a no lapping rule in this race but if it was in place, she would of made it out onto the run leg. a lot of hard work and sacrifices has gone in to getting this result. Well done Rach.

It was a great arvo on Saturday where we had the SCTA end of Season get together and Season Awards. A massive thankyou to all that came and help celebrate a very successful 2017-18 Season. With a  massive 2018-19 coming up it was a chance for everyone to get together and have a relaxing afternoon at Pier 33. All award recipients are below in the Full results.

Over the Easter Weekend we had the endurance athletes take on the Wild Horse Mountain Criterium Run in very wet and muddy conditions which made for a very fun day indeed. With distances of 11km, 22km, 33km and 55km to choose from. Tania Gover (1st 40-49) took on the 55km to finish 4th overall, while Overall Race wins went to Kate Gazzard in 33km and Josh Corcoran in the 11km. Erin Reid (2nd 40-49) was 3rd overall female in the 22km. Tara Partridge and Mark Corcoran had great runs as well.

Well done to Jessica Lee for taking out the series win in the 35-39 Years at the Bribie Island Triathlon Series. Consisting of 4 races, Jess had a great season to be crowned the winner.

Well done to the 21 SCTA athletes that were named in the Australian Preliminary Team for the Gold Coast World Triathlon Championships for the Sprint and Olympic Distance. Always a great honour being named in the Team especially when its a home Worlds. It was very competitive throughout the selection races and great to see so many named in the Team. All names below.

Speaking of the Australian Team. In the Selection races your best 3 races counted towards the point score. Jordan Gover finished 2nd (45-49) along with Tania Gover (40-44) and Anastasia Heikkila (16-19) both in 3rd place. Well done
