A great weekend of racing for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes racing at Round 2 of the Queensland Triathlon Series at Robina and Chicago Marathon.
Firstly to Robina for Round 2 of the QTS which saw 4 different races and distances over Olympic, Super Sprint, Enticer and Kool Kids. The weather the day before was very warm and humid with a light breeze. Total contrast to the next day with the wind picking up at around 4am which made for a tough bike course for all competitors with a solid 30-40km/hr headwind out.
Former SCTA Junior Scholarship recipient Jake Hynes led the charge in the Olympic distance race with 6th Open and breaking the 2hr barrier for a 1:58:57. On a tough day it was a great result in his 2nd attempt at this distance. The ever competitive Zsolt Dallos had a solid day in the office to land on the podium in 2nd place. Jessica Lee 14th and Scott Shults had solid races to finish 14th and 16th respectively.
The SCTA Juniors dominated the Super Sprint with some amazing results with Ryan Marsh (SCTA Junior Scholarship Recipient) and Jordan Gover both 2nd in their categories, Romy Wolstencroft had a blistering run to take out 3rd place and 6th Female Overall, while Kaya Shults (SCTA Junior Scholarship Recipient), Kayleigh Foster and Tania Gover just missing the podium with 4th places respectively in their categories.
In the Enticer Jazzy Shults recorded one of the fastest bike splits to finish 2nd in her category and 3rd Female outright and 14th overall. Kerry Barlow had strong day to take out 3rd place
While in the Kool kids, the juniors did an amazing job with most of them moving up in age category. Finn Barlow lead the charge with a 5th place with Matthew Nixon 9th and Jemma Hynes 10th. The ever improving Pipi Barlow 15th along with Paige Hynes 21st.
While in Chicago we had the Binet clan, Gary, Cameron and Ben, going head to head over the marathon distance. All 3 boys had been putting the work in over the last couple of months and was a bit of banter going around to see who would come out on top. Dubbed "Youth" vs "Experience". Well experience came out out on top with Gary claiming bragging rights over Cameron and then Ben. Well done boys. enjoy the recovery before heading home.
