Another busy weekend of racing for Sunshine Coast Tri Academy / Hybrid Concepts Australia Athletes in action at the World Triathlon Championships in Chicago, the first race of the TreX Cross Triathlon series and the Sydney Marathon.

Firstly at the World Triathlon Champs in Chicago we had 2 racing with Drew Williams (ITU Junior Male) and Tania Gover (35-39 years Female Sprint). With ITU Junior Male as last race on the Thursday (Friday morning our time) a storm front was moving in and had to delay the start of the race. Once the storm had rolled thru it was turned into a duathlon - 5km Run / 20 km Cycle / 2.5km Run. It was a shame as I think the swim legs would of been more beneficial for Drew but that's racing and you have to adapt when you have to. Drew went out with the pack over a 2 lap 5km run. First lap he ran thru in just under 3min km pace to be 20 secs down on the front runners. Drew finished the first 5km in 16:13 ( PB time) and onto the bike (4 laps and technical) where the road was still wet from the storm. There were a few causalities but Drew stayed upright to finish the bike leg in 55th place. Out onto the last run leg and Drew passed a few to finish 50th in his first World Championships despite suffering from cramping on the last run. A massive learning curve and a chance to see where he is against the best juniors in the World. Drew was the first of the African nations to finish.

Unlike the Junior Male's Race the rest of the Age Groups raced over the sprint distance earlier in the day and were unaffected by the storm. Tania Gover has had an interrupted year leading into the championships but got thru the race well to finish 14th and 2nd Aussie!!

First race of the TreX Cross Triathlon Series in Brisbane where Brodie Gardner lined up in the Open Men's category over the Enduro format of 350 m swim / 10 km Mt Bike / 4km Run x 2. Brodie had a strong swim and cycle to lead Max Neumann and  Guy Andrews off the bike but a blistering run leg from Max saw him in 2nd after the first run. A solid effort on the 2nd repeat saw Brodie hold to 2nd at the finish. Another good hitout for Brodie in his preparation for World Xterra Champs on 1st November

My little Brother, Ricky Coote,  lined up in the Sydney Marathon on Sunday. He didn't have an ideal 3 weeks leading into the race due to work commitments with the Navy and being stuck on a island for 2 weeks but he managed to set out and hold 4.30km pace for the first 30km before he hit the magical wall. He went on to finish in 3:27:34.
