It was great to see Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athlete Brodie Gardner reach is ultimate goal of representing Australia in the Green and Gold at an Elite level. He lined up in the ITU World Cross Triathlon Championships at Lake Crackenback with fellow SCTA member Tania Gover. As part of the Tre-X series we saw Kate Schultz with brothers Ryan and Scott Marsh race in the affiliated events at the World Championships weekend
The course for the World Champs was very tough with some strong technical aspects to it on the bike and run legs. With a water temp of 14 degrees it was going to be a wetsuit swim. Leading into the Race Brodie had a slight hip niggle and Tania had broken ribs so just getting to the start line was a mission in itself.
Both had solid races in tough fields. Brodie finished with a 12th place in the Elite Men's while Tania recorded 12th Place 40-44 Years Female. Brodie lined up in the Team Relay format on the Sunday where they joined 2 Elite and 2 Age Groupers together. Brodie anchored his team to a 3rd place behind the Australia 1 team and New Zealand.
In the affiliated sprint distance race in associatio0n with the World Champs Race weekend, we saw Kate Schultz line up. She had a great day out crossing the line as the Female Race Winner. While on the same day Ryan and Scott Marsh lined up in the Junior Race which saw both boys take 2nd place in the respective age categories.
