Another big weekend of competition for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at the National Schools Cross Country Champs, Rabat African Games and Karlovy Vary ITU World Cup.
It was great to see Laurelle Brown from Zimbabwe back on the start line after a few years off finishing her masters degree, took to the African Games and the Triathlon over the Sprint Distance. She had a great race where she had some work to do after the swim, but powered her way thru the field to come off the bike in a group of 3. Then it was down to a running race. She came away with 2nd place only 18 seconds behind the winner. Laurelle back up on the Sunday in the mixed Team Relay that saw there team finish 5th, where she had the fastest female split.
Down at Kembla Grange for the National Schools Cross Country in warm and fast conditions, we had 4 Juniors running over the Saturday. The start was vital with a short sprint to the first corner and a narrowing course which made it difficult to overtake. Mia Wooldridge was first off the rank in the U/14 Girls lining up against 82 Girls. She had a good start and was in the top 6 for a while. she gave it her all to come away in 21st place.
Peyton Craig was in the U/16 Males 4km. It was going to be a tough assignment in a double age group and racing against boys up to and more than a year older. As the defending champion in the U/14 Boys he lined up against 81 boys on the start line. Peyton had a strong to run to finish 28th.
In the U/18 Years 4km Girls we had SCTA Junior scholarship Holder Ella Wooldridge and Jazi Coventry on the start line with 93 girls. It w a s fast and furious start and saw Ella lead for majority of the first lap. She faded on the 2nd lap to finish 47th, while Jazi finished 68th.
Always tough competition at this level racing against pure runners that don't have to worry about training for 3 disciplines. It is great experience for them all that they will learn from and will be looking forward to the start of the Triathlon Season.
SCTA Club Member Kelly Ann Perkins lined up in the Karlovy Vary ITU World Cup in Czech Republic. She was up out of the water with the lead girls and looked to have a tough day in the office to finish 33rd.
Well done to all that Raced. Full results below
