Race Updates
A very successful weekend for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes at the Byron Bay Triathlon. Over the 3 different distances of Olympic (1.5/40/10) Sprint (750/20/5) and Tempta (300/10/2.5), saw all put one athlete on the podium.
It was windy with some rainy showers that converged on the race start but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the SCTA Crew. If anything it worked into their favour.
The sprint distance was SCTA most successful campaign with 5 Athletes and 1 Team, we saw the Little Pocket Rocket Romy Wolstencroft not only take out 16-17 Years Female, but also the overall race win beating in the Males as well. Not a bad 18th birthday present.
Not to be outdone, Kate Shultz won 30-34 Years Female as well and was 2nd overall (male and female) behind Romy. In fact we had 4 athletes in the top 6 overall with Matt Wolstencroft (Romy takes bragging rights till next year) winning his 45-49 Years Male and 5th Overall followed by Michael Hooper in 6th Overall and 20-24 Years Male winner. Rachel James had a great race to finish 2nd behind Kate in 30-34 Years Female.
We even saw the Coach, Toby Coote (Swim) team up with Brodie Gardner (Cycle) and Drew Westbrook (Run) to take out the Teams with a 12-minute win. Shorty AKA Kayleigh Foster had a great race in the Tempta to take out 12-13 Years Female and place 5th overall and 2nd Female
Onto the Olympic Distance and we saw Jake Hynes line up in a very competitive Open Men’s Field won by Josh Amberger where he finished 12th while Ty Harding battle his way thru to take 2nd place 40-44 Years Male. A great hit out for him leading into Cairns 70.3.
