Another Weekend of Racing for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Hybrid Concepts Australia Athletes with Queensland Tri Series # 2, World Ironman Championships in Kona and Sunshine Coast Cycle Fest.

Firstly to Hawaii for the big dance at the World Ironman Champs and from all reports was a tough hot day. SCTA's smiling assassin Kate Gazzard, lined up in her first ever attempt at Kona after several year's of near misses trying to qualify. All the hard work had been done and she was up for the fight but unfortunately it wasn't to be. With Nausea and cramps which started in the swim it was going to put Kate to the test. It went from racing to survival and getting to the end and the famous finishing Shute on Ali Drive. And in true Kate Style she toughed it out to get there in a time of 12:19:08 in 72nd place and 1491 overall. Well done done Kate and all here at SCTA are proud of what you achieved.

Dave Chick form Allez Sport ( SCTA Sponsor) returned to the big Island after 20 years and had great day out in the Lava Fields finishing in 10:15:34, 41st in his category and 484th overall. Well done Chicka.

The second round of the Queensland Triathlon Series was held at Raby Bay over the short course format 400 / 15 / 4. SCTA was well represented with Kev "Big Dog" Hammond taking out his 2nd win for the season in the 90-99kg Clydesdale. It was welcome back to 2 of the SCTA Stalwarts with Drew Westbrook (40-44) and Maureen Cummings (50-54) both taking out 2nd places on the podium. Jemma Hynes made it two podiums in a row with a 3rd (7-9 Kool Kids). Paris Shield is improving all the time with another solid race with a 5th (14-15) while Jake Hynes has stepped up ingot he Open Males this season (still a junior) and has started to improve with this calibre of racing. He had another great experience and is always learning from racing the top guys with an 8th overall.

Taj Jones lined up in the KOM Sunshine Coast Cycle Fest climb up Montville on Saturday. He was 3rd U/20 and 7th Overall.

Well done to all that raced.
