Another successful weekend for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at ITU Pacific Islands Championships in Fiji, Hong Kong Aqua Terra and at Wynnum for their annual Twilight run

In Fiji, Rachel James took a contingent of Athletes from PNG for their annual assault on the ITU Pacific Island Championships. Not only racing in the Elite Female Category, but also there as a Coach for the future and development of the PNG athletes, with most coming from SCTA's sister Club New Ireland Triathlon Academy (NITA).

Rachel was the defending champion from last year and continued her dominance at this regional event where the Pacific Island athletes get to compete against their peers from this region only, with Rachel taking the win. It gives a chance for the local indigenous athletes of the Pacific Region to come together and further developed the sport in these developing nations. They all have the same factors affecting development with limited resources, funding and equipment so it helps to level out the playing field. It also creates opportunities that these athletes don't normally get exposed to.

The rest of the PNG Team had some great results with Jayden James (1st U/12 Boys), Mesah Arua (2nd U/16 Male), Piwen Kutan (3rd 18+ Female), Seth James (3rd U/16 Boys), Kristine Kutan (3rd U/16 Female), Olsen Mange (4th 18+ Male), Zony Tuan (5th 18+ Male) and Skye James (5th U/16 Female). Well done to the Team.

At Wynnum, SCTA was represented by Chloe Turner (Elite Female) and Josh Corcoran (18-39 Male) over the 5km event. In very warm and blustery conditions both ran extremely well and posted some good times. Chloe was 2nd Elite Female just missing the win by 15 seconds, while Josh won his category and was 6th place overall.

And in Hong Kong, Kate Gazzard was trying to escape the Typhoon by competing in the Aqua Terra event that comprised of a 1km swim and 10km Trail Run that included 6000 steps of climbing!! Kate does find the challenging events, but had a great day out racing where she finished 5th Female Overall.
