Sunshine Coast Tri Academy / Hybrid Concepts Australia Athletes were out in force at the Triathlon Queensland Duathlon Championships at Springfield. With State title honours on the line there was some fast and furious racing over a very demanding and technical cycle course.

With Athletes in the Full Duathlon - 10km Run / 40km Cycle / 5km Run, Sprint Duathlon - 5km Run / 20km Cycle / 2.5km Run, Kids - 1.5km Run / 8km Cycle / 1.5km Run and Mini Kids - 350m Run / 2km Cycle / 350m Run

With very chilly conditions to start off with the first athletes starting at 7.00am. As the sun came up it started to warm up nicely with perfect conditions for racing with no wind.

In the Full Duathlon we had Kirra Seidel and Malin Olsson in flight. Unfortunately Kirra missed counted her laps and came in 1 lap earlier on the bike while leading the race outright. It was great to see her back racing and will learn from the experience. Malin was solid across all 3 legs which saw her take out the silver medal 35-39 years and 4th female overall.

In the Sprint Duathlon SCTA / HCAUS Junior scholarship recipients were in action and the hard winter training has paid off. With Savannah Wayner leading from the start of the run to win outright in the females, while Jake Hynes nada solid first run that put him in contention with the leaders coming off the bike 48 seconds down. He ran the fastest last run to fall short by 18 sec of an outright race win overall. His 2nd place place overall saw him take out the state championship title in the 16-17 years. Shane Shield competed in his first race in the SCTA colours to take out 8th place.

In the Kids Duathlon we saw the SCTA / HCAUS Juniors have a great day out with Macey Roberts taking out the silver medal 12-13 years and 4th Junior female outright. Ryan Marsh was 11th 12-13 years. While in the 10-11 years boys Josh Nixon 7th, Memphis Shield 10th and Scott Marsh 12th.
