2018/19 SCTA Female recipient - Macey Roberts

Macey Roberts, Triathlete
Hi I’m Macey Roberts . I am extremely proud and excited to have been named as the SCTA / Protector Aluminium 2018/19 Junior Scholarship holder.

I am 16 years old and from a small country town, Nanango. I have 4 sisters and have been doing triathlons for roughly 5 years and love every moment of it.

How it all started:
My family have always been into sport, with my older sisters competing in triathlons. At the beginning I preferred to sit on the sidelines and cheer them on, however as time progressed I developed a love for the sport that I will certainly never be able to lose.

I have always swum since I was little as Mum managed the local pool, and we always ventured to the beach as a family where we would surf and catch waves. My riding started off at a young age as Dad setting up jumps in the back yard to eventually getting out on the road. When I was 11, I started training more often, and started running (something I never thought I’d do) with my older sister.

As my love for the sport kept growing I started competing in more races and representing my region. Basically, my coaches were my mum and dad, and older sisters. As I started to go to higher levels, I wanted to extend my skills which was something that I couldn’t do in my home town.

In 2014 Christmas holidays my sister Meg and I had the opportunity to train with Toby at SCTA. This opened up a new level of training and a great group of people of all ages to train with.
For the past 4 years, I have been training back in Nanango off Toby’s Program and only catching up with the squad in the school holidays.

Even though I am not at the highest level of the sport, Toby and other SCTA athletes and parents have always encouraged me and recognised my efforts. As the scholarship holder I will continue to work hard and do the best that I can, knowing that regardless of the result I will always have the support of my family, coach and SCTA squad.

Now with the help of the scholarship I will get greater exposure to racing and elite athletes in the sport. I will also get the opportunity to meet professional companies and local businesses on the coast that support triathlon.

My family and I would like to thank all the sponsors of SCTA including Vorgee, Clif Bars Australia, Cannibal Australia, Mizuno Running Australia, Tara Leanne Nutrition, Rydges Hotels and Resorts, The Event Crew, Intune Sports Massage, Ironman Oceania, Allez Sport Mooloolaba, Davey and Associates Optometrist, Stratton Finance Mooloolaba, Felt Bicycles Australia, Titan Performance Group and of course Grant Symes from Protector Aluminium for all the hard work, effort and all the support provided.

Let’s see what we can achieve in the upcoming season.
Thanks. Macey Roberts
