A very busy weekend of racing for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes and Club Members in action over the weekend.
At Lake Kawana on Saturday we had the Triathlon Queensland Aquathlon Championships in warmer and humid conditions. with an afternoon start time. SCTA had 7 Athletes in the Sprint distance of 750m Swim / 5km Run and ran away with 5 x State Champions and 2 x 2nd Places. State Champions to Rebecca Howell (25-29), Jordan Gover (50-54), Gary Turner (70-74) with Club Members Paul Marchant (25-29) and Damian Bulters (35-39). 2nd places to YoYo Hung (25-29) and Lauren Murphy (40-44).
Also on Saturday at Ewen Maddock Dam was the scene for the Triathlon Queensland State Cross Triathlon Champs where we saw State Champions to Margo Mackintosh (40-44) with SCTA Club Members Brodie Gardner 1st (Open Male) and Ashleigh Hunter 2nd (Open Female). Both Brodie and Ashleigh backed up in the Dirt Masters which combined the Cross Tri withe a MTB race on the Sunday that saw Brodie take out the Title and Ashleigh 4th Place.
Sunday we were back at Lake Kawana for the Queensland All Schools Triathlon Champs that was also doubling as Regional Trials for the Queensland Schools Triathlon Champs to be held in Hervey Bay in February 2022. Hot conditions with slight breeze made for some fast racing. In the Seniors racing over the sprint distance saw Ethan Close 4th and Sophie Burger 7th.
Racing doesn't always go to plan but for the rest of the SCTA Athletes they will take away some valuable lessons that will be used in future races. In the Seniors, Callum Close, Kyle Wallis and Ruby Blue Weepers. In the Intermediates Saul Nicol Rann, Jayden James, Tabitha Fraser and Club Member Grace Brimelow. for the Juniors Eva Nicol Rann, Millan Power, Wade Wallis and Club Member Jude Brimelow Lachlan Vasniak. In the Primary Aquathlon Billie Elsum. Some athletes from the Mov3 Program that competed included Meadow Sutherland, Flynn McHugh, Will McHugh, Harrison Jefferies and Harvey Hoolihan.
First Race of the Bribie Island Triathlon Series was taking place as well with Steve Miller 6th (60-64 Long Course) while Marilyn Shrapnel 1st (70-74 Short Course)
At Burleigh Heads for the Burleigh 2km Open water swim saw Janelle McCosker 3rd (60+) while Nicole Kelly 4th (50-59).
