QTS # 1 – Robina Triathlon
Distance – 300/8/2.5 Age Category – U/14 Male Loved the feeling of the first race of the season knowing the triathlon season has started. It was an interesting race yesterday seeing where I’m at physically and mentally for the season ahead, knowing who will be my competition for throughout the year. I was happy with my swim coming out of the water in 3rd, I was happy with how I was sitting after T1 and heading into the bike, I think I set a new world record just quietly for the most cones knocked over whilst mounting my bike ;). I didn’t have the greatest of rides and lost a bit of time to the lead group with it totalling up to 1min 15secs heading into T2. So, I knew I had to make some time up onto the run, I slowly got into a rhythm and felt quite good after the first km and had taken some serious time of the lead group. It was then when I ran up beside the lead group, unfortunately an ongoing ankle injury from a sprain last week, decided to take its toll, which left me pulling out of the rest of the race. Before the race a discussion with my Coach, Toby, that if there was any pain that wasn’t tolerable on the run that I was to pull out. I was quite devastated and frustrated knowing that I had to pull out, but I guess it will be better in the long run with some bigger races in the pipeline coming up. A massive shout out to Vorgee, CLIF bar and Mizuno for all the amazing products that helped me throughout the race. Looking forward to the next race of the QTS at Raby Bay on 14th October and then Qld All Schools at Lake Kawana on 28th October Cheers, Peyton
