Race – Queensland Triathlon Series Race # 2
Venue – Raby Bay Result – 2nd U/13 Years Male – 25th Overall Distance – Super Sprint 400/15/4 Raby bay, it was an extremely challenging race on the weekend with absolutely shocking conditions, but I was lucky enough to get through it with no harm done. Preparation leading up to the race wasn’t ideal after having a 4-day touch competition prior to the race as well as sickness a week out. The normal warm up ritual of the regular run warm up and then having a bit of a swim was carried out however, I did make an error of not giving myself enough time to warm up in the water in the cold conditions. I definitely saw an effect on this with as a result not having the greatest of swims and was a bit behind out of the water; the Vorgee Mk11 were my choice of goggles, and could not fault them. Into T1 and I knew I had some time to make up on the bike, prior to the race myself and Coach Toby Coote had discussed the hazards on the bike course and the cautions that had to be taken, as it was extremely wet and slippery. It proved to not have worried me that much as I had one of my best rides yet and was extremely happy with it, and had taken some time off the leaders. Unfortunately, the run wasn’t one of my greatest and the legs failed to fire. Overall, it was a great learning experience that will be beneficial developing as an athlete. Cheers, Peyton
