A massive weekend of racing for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at NSW Schools Cross Country Champs, Yeppoon Triathlon festival, Zurich 5150 Triathlon, Queensland Schools Orienteering Championships, Sydney Harbour 5km Fun Run, Glasshouse Trail Series and WTS Edmonton.

Up at Yeppoon for the annual Triathlon Festival saw athletes greeted with heavy fog, that made the swim leg interesting trying to locate the turning buoys. There was  along course of 2/80/20 and a 750/205/5 to choose from

In Europe we had Romy Wolstencroft line up in her first 5150 (OD for the Old School) in Zurich. It was her last race before heading home to concentrate on the World Champs in September. A few storms rolled thru that delayed the start, but she toed the line with World IM Champion Daniella Ryf. Romy had a solid day out for her first OD finishing 5th Pro. Safe travels home.

SCTA Club Members, Kelly Ann Perkins and Ryan Fisher lined up at the WTS Edmonton Sprint Distance over the weekend. The worlds best toeing the line and neither of them disappointed. KP was 21st in Professional Female, while Ryan Fisher 22nd in the Men's.

The Finders Tour took place on the weekend as part of the Glasshouse Trail Series. A choice of 52km and 26km trail Runs. Kate Gazzard took the challenge on in the 52km event where she finished 2nd Female and 15th Overall. Tim Jarrold lined up in the 26km event. You all know Tim loves his training and went in super fresh for this and performed extremely well to finish in 40th Place

Anastasia Heikkila was in action at the Queensland schools Orienteering Championships over the weekend that saw her take out a Bronze Medal Senior Girls and backed up in the Senior Teams to take a Silver Medal. Its been a hectic few weekends for Tash after the Kokoda Challenge, Qld Schools Cross Country Champs and now with the orienteering.

Down at Eastern Creek in NSW, the NSW Cross Country Champs were being held with the Wooldridge Sisters in action. Both Mia and Ella had already qualified for National Cross Country thru Athletics NSW, so it was Erin's last chance to qualify for NSW. Erin had a strong run but wasn't able to get in that top 6 finishing 29th in a  very competitive 15 Years Girls (She has a chance to qualify this weekend at Qld Athletics Cross Country Champs at Maleny on Saturday). Next up was Ella in the 16 Years Girls and she had a great race to finish 13th. The little pocket rocket Mia "aka Ratbag" finished the day off in style with a strong sprint finish that saw her overtake the 2 girls in front to take out the NSW State Title in the 13 years girls.

Ella Wooldridge lined up on the Sunday in the Sydney Harbour 5km Fun Run where she did a PB 5km breaking the 20 min barrier in 19.56. She won her category (16-19) and was 2nd Female overall / 32nd Overall amongst the boys.

Big 2 weekends of racing for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes at were in action at the ITU World Multisport Championships in Denmark, Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast, Queensland Schools Cross Country Championships, Velothon Sunshine Coast and Queensland Duathlon Championships.

While at the Queensland Schools Cross Country Champs, Peyton Craig led the charge with a  2nd Place in 13 Years Boys and selection into the Qld Team for the National Champs on 25th August. Anastasia Heikkila backed up from her 96km Kokoda Challenge the week before to finish 14th 18-19. Stella Green was 14th in the 10 Years Girls only 28 seconds from the winner. Ryan Marsh backed up from Qld Duathlon Champs in the morning and ran in the 15 years Boys in the arvo to finish 33rd, while Macey Roberts had a solid run to finish 34th in 16 Years Girls

Springfield turned on the racing heat, but not the temperatures for the Queensland Duathlon Championships. Always a cold start to the day and this was no exception. we had 8 athletes racing with 4 State Champions and a bronze. Some fast and furious racing and a few of them up in distances and at bottom of the age categories. All great experience for the athletes. In the Long Course, Nicholas Hull took out the 30-34 Years State Title. While in the Sprint Distance, Ella and Erin Wooldridge took out State Titles in their respective categories while Ryan Marsh got a bronze medal. Kelly Enright had a  great day out with a 5th.

In the Enticer, Mia Wooldridge took out the State Title and Female Race Winner with Finn Barlow stepping up an age group this season and distance to claim a 6th. While in the Kids, Pipi Barlow also went up an Age Category and distance this year for a 6th Place as well.

Rainbow Beach was the scene for the Run Queensland Rainbow Beach Fun Run. Where competitors run on sand and all terrains, it is a tough course for all competitors over the Marathon, Half Marathon and 11km distances. Both Jen Shults and Courtney Akrigg ran well in the Marathon. In the Half, Josh Corcoran took out his category and the overall Race Win. While Jazzy Shults and Erin Reid were both 2nd in their respective categories. Scott Shults was 6th. while in the 11km Kaya Shults won her category and 4th female overall.

Over in Denmark for the ITU World Multisport Championships, Marion Tuin led the charge in the Long Course World Champs, 3km swim, 120km cycle and 30km run where she had a solid swim and bike combo but paced out the run very well to finish off strongly with a bronze medal on the podium. The 30-34 category that she was in all finished in the top 5 Females overall.

While a few days earlier, Tania Gover lined up in the Aquathlon World Champs over a 1km Swim 5km Run combo where the local jellyfish came out to greet all the swimmers. It hasn't been an ideal prep for Tania but she got in there and gave it a red hot go to finish 12th 40-44 and on the way was 2nd Aussie overall amongst all the categories.

While in the Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast where we had Anastasia Heikkila and Ron Craig competing over the 96km course on the Gold Coast where temperatures really plummeted overnight. On a course thru the Gold Coast hinterland and finishing at the Nerang Velodrome. Anastasia Team took out the School Challenge in a record time.

Well done to all that raced. Full results below

Even though it is the off season, there is still plenty of racing around that Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes have been competing in and gaining some amazing results. This 3 weeks hasn't been any different. We had athletes in action at Holten ETU Junior Cup in Netherlands, Gold Coast Marathon Festival, Sunshine Coast Winter Solstice Ocean Swim at Alexandra Headlands, the Caloundra Foreshore run and Ironman France.

Over in Europe for the Holten ETU Junior Cup, where we had Romy Wolstencroft (her last race as SCTA Junior scholarship Holder) line up in the last race that would count towards the Australia Junior Team Selection for Worlds on the Gold Coast. And she didn't disappoint with a very strong Cycle / Run Combo that saw her move thru the field to finish in 9th place, 47 seconds off the winner. In finishing 9th she was the first Australian Home

While on the same day in the Elite Category at ITU Holten ETU Premium Cup, SCTA Club Member Kelly Ann Perkins (who is coached by Cam Watt at the Hills District) gained a podium position in 2nd place behind the current ITU World Ranked # 5. Its been a long journey back for KP, but looks like she is back on track and performing well.

The annual Gold Coast Marathon Festival was held over the weekend and we had numerous SCTA athletes running around the streets of the Gold Coast. In the Marathon, Courtney Akrigg continued her great running with a very quick run time for her with a 3:44:52. In the Half Marathon we had both Jason Shortis (4th) and Gary Binet (7th) in the 45-49 years. Both boys are fine tuning for the Marathon at the Sunshine Coast on the 19th August. Cameron Binet continued his build back from an ankle injury with a solid run in 22nd (21-24) while the ever consistent Emma Hogan ran well in her category.

On the weekend of the 24th June we saw swimmers in the Sunshine Coast Winter Solstice Swims over the 3km Sam Penny 3rd (Adult Male) in the 2km Gary Latimer 2nd (Adult Male) while Jake Hammond took out the win (U/12 Male).

Over in France SCTA Club Member and Professional, Carrie Lester lined up in Ironman France as the defending champion. Carrie had a great swim that set her up near the front and finished with a very strong Cycle / Run combo to take out 2nd place in a time of 9:27:30 which has some epic climbs on the cycle course.

The Caloundra Foreshore Run was held on the 17th June which starts at Golden Beach and follows the undulating foreshore around the Kings Beach to Moffat Beach and surrounds. It is a tough course which saw Kirra seidel (4th), Anastasia Heikkila (6th) and Toni Duetzmann (22nd).
