What a weekend of racing from the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at Queensland Schools Athletics Championships in Brisbane, Queensland All Schools Triathlon Championships at Lake Kawana, Trex Cross Triathlon and Trail Run Australia at Ewen Maddock Dam. Some great results across the board.

Very warm and humid conditions greeted the athletes competing in the Queensland All schools Run by Triathlon Queensland at Lake Kawana. The Aquathlon Races were up first and all the SCTA juniors Raced extremely well in very competitive fields and big numbers of competitors. Well done to, Jake and Zak Hammond, Pipi Barlow, Heidi Craig, Zoe Davis and Ava Foreman

In the Triathlon in all the races there were 2 waves of competitors with Sunshine Coast Region I the 2nd wave. Wave one had most of the Brisbane athletes in there and were most of the major competition was, so it was hard to get a gauge how they were going up against them. All of the SCTA Juniors performed remarkably well and have all qualified for the Queensland Schools Triathlon Champs that will be held at Hervey Bay next March.

Leading the charge was SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holder, Peyton Craig with a 3rd  Junior Male. Fellow SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder Macey Roberts was 9th Senior Female. Ella Wooldridge just missed the podium in Senior Girls with a 4th. Ryan Marsh raced well for his 7th Intermediate Male amongst  very competitive field. Erin Wooldridge rounded out the top 10 with a 9th Intermediate Female. Jack Dann was having a great race riding thru on the cycle leg, until a puncture on the bike ended his race.

For the rest of the SCTA Juniors, Mia Wooldridge, Jericho Pogany, Kayleigh Foster, Jorja Matthews, Oscar Starr - Thomas and Scott Marsh all raced well in their respective age categories.

Brisbane was the venue for the Queensland Schools Athletics Championships held over 4 days starting on the Thursday. Ella Wooldridge took 3rd 16 Years 2000m Steeple (her first Qld Medal since relocating from NSW). Peyton Craig was 5th in a very competitive 13 years 800m that saw seconds separating the 3rd - 5th. Ryan Marsh ran strongly in the 15 Years 3000m with a 7th while Erin Wooldridge was 8th 15 Years 2000m Steeple.

The Trex Cross Triathlon (Doubling as the Queensland Cross Triathlon Champs) was held at Ewen Maddock Dam on Saturday over the 1km Swim / 19km Mt Bike / 7km Trail Run. SCTA had 3 athletes in action and was great to see Intune Sports and Health Owner Brodie Gardner take out the OPEN Male Race Win with his Partner and Massage Therapist at Intune Sports Kate Schultz take out the OPEN Female Race Win. Nicholas Hull raced his first ever off road Tri to take 5th place OPEN Male

On Sunday, Ewen Maddock was also the Venue for Trail Run Australia Sunshine Coast, where some of the SCTA Juniors took on the 5km Trail Run in the 10-11 Years Female. Libby Latimer and Amber Faherty were joint winners as they dead heated, while Summer Latimer was 2nd and Kiah Cox 3rd. Well done Girls. Great running

A big weekend of racing from the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that raced at Bribie Island Triathlon Series Race # 1, Blackall 100 and Primary Schools Queensland Athletics Championships in Cairns.

Bribie Island Triathlon held its first race of the series on the weekend over the sprint distance 750/20/5. Swimmers were greeted with Jellyfish in the water. Apart from that it was perfect conditions for racing. Age Category wins went to Jorja Matthews (15-16), Marilyn Shrapnel (70-74) with Team Squirrel, consisting of Tara Partridge (swim), Kelly Enright (cycle) and Tania Gover (run) the Female Teams. While in 2nd place were Ryan Marsh (15-16) and 9th Overall, Michael Woodcock (45-49) and the Team Squirrel Kids, Emily Baker (swim + Cycle) Female Teams, while rounding out the podium finishers in 3rd place was Jericho Pogany (13-14).

Just missing the podium was Scott Marsh 4th (13-14) and Jan Harvey 5th (55-59). While SCTA Club Member and former SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder, Romy Wolstencroft took out the Female Race Win

Kate Gazzard likes a challenge and lined up for the Blackall 100 - which is 100km of running out the back of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. A very undulating course with some nice little climbs. She had a great day out where she won 30-39 Years Female and was 9th Female Overall.

Lastly the juniors 10-12 Years were in Cairns for the Queensland Primary Schools Athletics Championships. I am waiting for the results to be posted but well done to all that competed. Mia Wooldridge, Finn and Pipi Barlow, Rhiannon Corcoran, Kiah Cox and Kasey Peters

A very successful weekend by the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes racing over the weekend at Round # 2 of the Queensland Triathlon Series at Raby Bay in very trying conditions with the torrential rain continuing to fall over South East Queensland.

SCTA had 23 athletes race over the Long Course, Super Sprint , Enticer and Kool kids. We had 12 podium finishers that included 6 Category Wins. Not bad for a small contingent that raced. In the Long Course 6 athletes were in the top 36 overall. In the Super Sprint we had 6 in the top 50 and amongst the female we had 7 of them in the top 50 Female. So as you can see the racing was fast and furious and the SCTA Athletes were amongst it.

The Long Course was over the 900/25/6 format, a weird distance but was great to see the crew get amongst it. Michael Hooper led the charge with a win (20-24) and 12th Overall. He is starting to find that form and is improving on from his World Champs Campaign. Jordan Gover took the win as well in the 45-49 despite having an argument with the road where the road came out on top. Pauline Ashley had another strong performance to land on the podium in 3rd 45-49. Lucy Bowden stepped up into the Open Female for this round and was with the placegetters on the bike. She went on to finish 6th Open and 6th Female overall. SCTA Club Members competing  Rio Olympian Ryan Fisher who was 3rd Overall and Paul Marchant who won 25-29.

In the Super Sprint, Chloe Turner (25-29) 9th Female Overall, Tania Gover (40-44) 20th Female Overall and Gary Turner (70-74) all had great races to land on top of the winning dais in their respective categories. SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holder Peyton Craig was 25th Overall and took out 2nd U/13, while Ella Wooldridge (16-19) 8th Female Overall and Kelly Enright (30-34) both got 3rd places on the podium. In the Kool Kids Mia Davis (7-9) raced extremely well to land her first ever podium with a 3rd.

On the weekend of 30th September, SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holder Peyton Craig raced the Agnes Waters Triathlon where he not only took out his category win U/16 Male but also winning the Enticer Overall.

During the recent Schools holidays Anastasia Heikkila participated in the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships and the Australian Orienteering Championships from 29th September to the 2nd October.

Her is Tasha's race report "On the 28th of September, I flew to Adelaide as a part of the Queensland Schools Orienteering Team with 20 other orienteers. We competed in a 9-day carnival which consisted of two sprint orienteering races approximately 3km in distance each, two middle distance orienteering races approximately 5km in distance each, three long distance orienteering races approximately 7km in distance each and two orienteering relay races approximately 5km in distance each.

I finished 14th overall in the senior girl’s category and 11th out of the Australian girls. It was an exhausting yet fun 9 days of racing which saw the Queensland team finish 4th overall behind New Zealand, ACT and Tasmania". Well done Tash
