Amazing results from the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at Rainbow Beach Double Triathlon over the weekend.

Like many races before, as a Coach, I like to support the regional races. Phil Hungerford (Race Director) and myself go back to my first race at Bribie Island back in 1992 and have tried to support him in the past and also into the future. This is one race on the calendar that works in well as a first race for the season trip away for the squad. It adds a bit of a team bonding atmosphere even tho we are an individual sport. The way that all the athletes embraced this concept and welcomed a few new faces into the fold, was done extremely well.

It also doubled up as a Triathlon Queensland, Sunshine Coast / Wide Bay Region style camp / race situation which included Juniors from SCTA, Race Pace Coaching, Hervey Bay Tri Club (HAT), B-Mee Multisport and Bargara Triathlon Club.

2 days of racing over a sprint distance format with a Saturday 3.30pm Start and a Sunday 7.30am Start. Conditions for both days of racing were magnificent and couldn't have asked for better. Some athletes were going for the double tri while some did sprint on the Saturday and then team events on the Sunday.

From a Coaches perspective, there were a few things that needed to be implemented from race # 1 to race # 2 and I couldn't have been more prouder by the way the athletes embraced what I said and then went ahead and implemented it into race # 2.

All men went together with all female 3 minutes behind and another 3 minutes to the Teams. It was a tough tussle in the men's race which saw SCTA Junior Scholarship holder, Jake Hynes (3rd overall both days), lead out the swim both days, with Simon Hearn (Overall race winner both days) and Nicholas Hull (2nd overall both days) chasing Jake and a few other junior boys down. It was some fast and furious racing on a flat 20km cycle leg (some decided they didn't want to turn at the turn around point and do extra on the bike...I won't name names but they know who they are) and the run is quite a hard one with a hill that they run up 4 times on a 2 lap run course.

Female SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder, Romy Wolstencroft, stamped her authority on both days of racing taking the wins by sizeable margins. Its a good pre season hit out to see where they are at with a  great winter block behind. The season is looking very promising for both Jake and Romy in their last season as an ITU Junior.

Great racing from the entire SCTA crew up there most were on the podiums and hitting some great results for the start of the season. A chance to blow out some cobwebs. well done to Kayleigh Foster, Meg and Macey Roberts, Lucy Bowden, Hannah Blanchett, Charlotte Durand, Ryan Marsh, Peyton Craig, Chris George, Ron Craig, Drew Westbrook and Grant Davis.

There are no results up yet for the junior kids from Saturday's race but well done to Scott Marsh, Heidi Craig and Ava Foreman who all raced extremely well.

A big thanks to the parents that helped out over the weekend as well. Greatly appreciated.

Well done to all that Raced. Full results below.
