A big weekend of racing for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at the Queensland Schools Triathlon Championships at Hervey Bay, Newcastle Triathlon, Geelong 70.3 and the week before at Bribie Island Triathlon Race # 3.

Hervey Bay was the scene for the Qld Schools Triathlon Champs which were held under a cloudy sky but still very warm and humid. head wind out on the bike and tailwind home over a 5km loop. SCTA Juniors have a great history at this event, and this year was no different with 6 being named in the Qld Team. They have picked 2 Qld Teams this year with Nationals being held at Hervey Bay on the same courses as the State Championships.

Peyton Craig - 3rd Place Intermediate Male
The defending National and State Champion in the Junior Males, stepping up into the intermediate age group and at the bottom of the age is always tough. He came out 2nd in the swim and came off the bike with a group of athletes in 3rd. Quickly asserted on the run to take some time out of the first lap and secure a bronze medal and a Qld Team selection.

Mia Wooldridge - 4th Place Junior Female
A strong swim saw Mia exit the water only 15 seconds behind the eventual winner. She lost some time on the bike to exit in 14th place, but a blistering run saw her move her way thru the field to just miss the podium with a 4th Place and her first Qld Team Selection in Triathlon.

Jazi Coventry - 5th Place Senior Female
The defending National Champion, Jazi was 2nd out of the water and lost a bit of time on the bike with a drafting penalty where she served a 2 min penalty. Once on the run leg she moved her way thru the field to finish 5th and Qld Selection.

Erin Wooldridge - 6th Place Senior Female
The improvement in her swim saw her come out of the water a minute down on the winner. A strong bike set up a good position coming off in 5th place, was overtaken by Jazi on the run to secure 6th place and her first Triathlon Queensland Team

Ryan Marsh - 11th Place Senior Male - SCTA Junior scholarship Holder
A good swim and  a fast transition set up for a good race. Was in the mix on the bike and just didn't have the run legs like he had at Caloundra Tri. Finished in 11th place and secured a Qld Team Berth for the 2nd time in his last appearance at these championships.

Macey Roberts - 13th Place Senior Female
Solid racing from Macey over all 3 disciplines. Not outstanding in any one leg, just got the job done. In her last appearance at these championships she was able to secure her first ever Qld Triathlon Team, and you couldn't wipe the smile off her face. Very well deserved Mace and Team Roberts.

Jericho Pogany - 13th Place Intermediate Male
A great progression in one year of training that saw Jericho perform very strongly and put himself in the mix. There were some small mistakes that he will learn from and progress into further racing.

Jorja Matthews - 15th Place Senior Female
A strong day out for Jorja. She showed some glimpses of what can come when she puts her mind to it and shows consistency. A good platform to build on into future races. Keep the progression coming

Zoe Davis - 62nd Place Junior Female
First go at the Triathlon at these championships after the aquathlon last year. Lots of positives and things to work on from the race that will be used for future races.

Scott Marsh - 64th Place Intermediate Male
Scott has showed some consistency over the past few months and this was evident here today. A strong ride set up for a good race and he got thru the run well. Some good signs there Scotty to keep progressing with

Newcastle Triathlon was the scene for TA World Selection Age Group race for OD where Brett Stalley and Pauline Ashley traveled down to. Brett had a great day out to win (55-59) while on the 3rd lap of the bike, Pauline punctured and was unable to fix bike. she got back tot he transition area fixed the tyre and entered the Enticer where she took 3rd (OPEN) so a bad day turned out alright.

At Geelong 70.3, doubling as the Australian Long Course SCTA Club Members and Professional Athletes Simon Hearn and Kierra Allen were in action. Kierra had a great day out with a 10 min PB on that course, while it wasn't the day Simon was expecting while in contention with the 2nd pack on the bike he had asthma problems that forced him to withdraw early on the run leg.

At Bribie Island over the 1/30/8 format, Jessica Lee continued her great racing with another podium with 3rd (35-39). Was great to see Jake Hynes (OPEN) back out racing and something to build from with a 7th. in the Short Course Marilyn Shrapnel (70-74) continue her winning way taking out her category.

The Sunshine Coast Triathlon academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes have been in action over the past few weeks of racing gaining some great results and performances.

Over the weekend the predicted weather didn't eventuate that meant quite humid conditions after the heavy rain during the week. Caloundra was the scene for Round # 6 of the Queensland Triathlon Series over the sprint distance format. 21 athletes toed the line with 10 podiums and 2 x 4th. In that we had 3 in the top 6 males and 1 in the top 7 females.

Podium wins went to Lachlan Kerin (25-29 & 6th Overall), Nicholas Hull (30-34), Brett Stalley (55-59) and Sam McClaron (Kool Kids First Timers). 2nd places to Peyton Craig (14-15 & 4th Overall), Alana Park (25-29), Pauline Ashley (45-49) and Carol Wooldridge (Enticer 45+). While in 3rd Place SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder Ryan Marsh (16-19 & 5th Overall) and Rebecca Howell (25-29). Just missing the podium with 4th was Erin Wooldridge (16-19 & 7th Female Overall) and Matt Billington (25-29).

SCTA Club Member Simon Hearn went out to the annual Hell of the West in Goondiwindi where the swim leg was cancelled due to blue green algae. So a 2.5km run replaced the 2km swim. with hot and humid conditions and rain at times, Simon stamped his authority and had a great day out to take the Race Win.

On the 2nd February, SCTA athletes were involved in the Noosa Ocean Swim where there were some great results. Jake Hammond 1st 300m and 3rd 1km (8-12). Jericho Pogany (1km 13-16) and Duanne Cannell (2km 50-54) both place 2nd, while Sam Penny (5km 45-49), Ben Cook (1km 35-39) placed 3rd with Zak Hammond 3rd 300m and 4th 1km (8-12).

Chloe Turner went to visit her sister in South Australia and lined up in the South Australian Aquathlon Champs where she was 7th Elite. She said she really enjoyed the cold water down there!!
