A big weekend of racing for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Studio Steel Athletes and Club Members with Queensland Schools Triathlon Champs in Hervey Bay, Tasmanian 70.3 and QTS # 6 Caloundra Tri doubling as the Queensland Sprint Championships
Down south in Tasmania for the inaugural 70.3 saw competitors confronted with 16 degree water temperature and outside temp not much different. the rain had subsided from the day before, which saw blue skies and a wind picking up for the journey home on the bike. Maegan Morrison 7th (25-29) had a strong race while Emily Barrett 8th (25-29). For Tara Woodcock 12th (50-54) this was her validation race to secure her legacy spot for the World Ironman Championships in Kona. After crashing his bike the week before the race Liam Roberts was still feeling the effects from this but grinded his way to a 27th (25-29) while Prabakar Kuppusamy 44th (45-49) learnt some more experience at racing the 70.3. Jordan Gover (Swim + Run) and Mick Woodcock (Cycle) joined forces in the Team Event to secure a 2nd (Male Team) Caloundra Triathlon for Round # 6 of QTS also doubled as the Queensland Sprint Championships which saw SCTA crown 5 QLD Champions, 1 x Silver and a Bronze3rd. State Champions to Sophie Burger (16-19), Keith Campbell (35-39), Kim Alexander (50-54), Brett Stalley (60-64) and Gary Turner (70-74). Silver to Billie Elsum ((10-11) and Damian Bulters Bronze (40-44) For 20 years SCTA juniors have competed at the Queensland Schools Triathlon Championships and we have sent at least 1 athlete away each year. This year we qualified 7 Athletes into the QLD Team that will compete at the National Championships in Devonport. It was great to see the progressive on all the juniors that had put the work in and some had massive PB's as well. Addison Houslip was crowned QLD Champion in the Junior Female and has the opportunity to go back to back titles at Nationals. Grace Brimelow was QLD champion in Multiclass triathlon (QLD Selection) competing against the able body athletes where she finished 17th Intermediate Female and Marcello Power crowned QLD Champion in Multiclass Aquathlon and selected in his first ever QLD Team. Other athletes selected in the QLD Team include Summer Phillips 7th (Intermediate Female), Millan Power 8th (Intermediate Male), Wade Wallis 9th (Junior Male) and Jaz Edminstone 11th (Junior Female). Well done to all the juniors that raced up. some valuable experience gained for future races ahead for this season. Well done to all that raced.
