A massive weekend for racing for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at the Australian Cross Country Champs on Saturday and on Sunday at Sunshine Coast 70.3 and Ballina Triathlon.

On one of the hardest courses going around at the Maleny Golf Course, SCTA had 3 juniors lining up in the Australian Cross Country Championships. SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holder Peyton Craig put the perfect race together to claim the National U/14 Years Male Title. He ended up with 3 Gold Medals with the Individual Title, Team Title and Relay Title over 2 days of fast and furious racing.

Not to be outdone Mia Wooldridge was 10th in the 12 Years Girls having a great run where 60 seconds separated the first 10. Ella Wooldridge ran very well against a quality field and girls a year older than her in the U/18 Female and a NZ team, where she finished 67th

The weather gods didn't shine on the Sunshine Coast 70.3 this year. With predictions of torrential rain and storms. Fortunately the storms stayed away but the rain came in bursts throughout the event which made it cooler with light winds and fast times.

SCTA Club Member Simon Hearn had a great race where he was crowned the fastest age Grouper on the course and winning the 25-29 Years. The Team of Michael Hooper / Michael Woodcock / Jason Shortis were the first Team home taking out the Male Teams as well.

There were plenty of SCTA Athletes out in action and all performed extremely well. Tara Partridge and Kelly Enright both produced PB over the distance and had amazing races. Was great to see SCTA Sponsor Grant Elliot from Stratton Finance Mooloolaba out there racing as well. well done to all that raced in the 70.3

While done in Ballina, there was a bit of fine tuning for the upcoming World Champs over the sprint distance. Brett Stalley had a sprint finished and was just pipped out on the category win. Matt Wolstencroft (45-49) took bragging rights over Romy Wolstencroft (18-19) with both 2nd in their respective categories while Pauline Ashley (45-49) was 3rd.

The Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes were out in force on home turf for the Sunshine Coast Marathon Run Festival and in Townsville for their annual Triathlon Festival.

On the Saturday Ryan Marsh lined up in the Townville Triathlon Festival over the Sprint Distance where he had a great race and learning more how to race over this distance. He finished 7th Overall and took 3rd Place 14-19 Years against some older competitors.

On the Sunshine Coast for the Marathon Run festival, athletes were greeted with cool conditions that were perfect for running. As the day went on the predicted westerly wind came thru and was quite strong in gusts.

Jason Shortis (45-49) lead the charge in the Marathon with a  category win and 8th overall. Gary Binet (50-54) who, with a few others are credited with getting this event off the ground and supporting the Ronald McDonalds charity house, decided to run this year instead of running around sorting out the course. He wanted to beat his personal best that he set 5 years ago and came up 17 secs short. A great effort and secured his category win and 9th overall. Kate "Doc" Gazzard (35-39) had another solid run with a  6th place. Awesome work from Wade Scougall who was one of the pacers giving up his time to guide the athletes around the course.

The Half Marathon saw Kaya Shults (15-17) take 3rd in her category, while both Meegan Walker and Ange Brearley had solid runs as well.

In the 10km, Jake Hynes (18-20) led the charge with a solid run taking the category win and 9th overall. The girls had a field day out there as well with Romy Wolstencroft (18-20) led the charge of the Females with the overall 10km title and category win. Clare Rickards (21-24) taking the category win and 6th female overall. Marion Tuin (30-34) in her final preps of World 70.3 Champs in South Africa, finished 2nd in her category and 7th female overall.

The 5km event was another dominate display from the SCTA Crew with Michael Hooper (21-24), 4th overall, SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holders Peyton Craig (15-17), 6th Overall and Macey Roberts (15-17), 5th Female overall. Maddi Dutton (21-24), 10th Female overall, Drew Walker (40-44) and Drew Westbrook (45-49) all finished 2nd in their respective categories.

While in the 2km Run we saw Heidi Craig (5-10) continue her great running with a 10th Female overall and 7th in her category.
