Been a very hectic 2 weeks of racing for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at World ITU Multisport World Championships in Spain, National Schools Triathlon Championships at Lake Kawana, Port Macquarie and Busselton 70.3, Challenge Riccione, Milne Bay Run Challenge, Allez Sport Cross Country series race # 3, WTS Bermuda, Gladstone Harbour Festival Run and Sunshine Coast District School Cross Country.

At the World Championships in Spain, we had 2 athletes racing. One in the Duathlon, Margo Mackintosh and one in the Aquathlon and Aquabike, Jordan Gover. Margo had a great day out in the Sprint distance Duathlon 5/20/2.5 where she was the fastest female on the day and taking the World Title in the 35-35 Years Female. Unfortunately for Jordan he torn his calf while being a guide in Para Tri Milan World Cup the week before the race, but was able to get to that start line to finish 9th 45-49 Years Male. The winner of his race was 2nd overall. Jordan lined up in the aquabike, but unfortunately 2 punctures put him out of action and his day was over early into the bike leg.

On home Turf the SCTA Juniors used the home ground advantage to take on the other juniors from around the country at the National Schools Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships at Lake Kawana. From a  coaching point when it comes together it is great tom see. All 3 of them executed their races to the best of their ability. After 16 years of athletes at the National Schools Champs, we not only got 1, but 2 National Schools Titles. We had gone close before with 6 podiums.

Peyton Craig led the charge with the first race of the day and set the proceedings for a ripper start. A great swim had him 2nd onto the bike and a small group rode together and were eventually caught by the 2nd pack. So the front pack contained about 8 riders. It was going to come down to a run race and we knew we had done the work and had the speed on the opposition. Once onto the run Peyton stamped his authority and went straight to the front. Established a 10 sec lead and controlled the race from there taking out the National Title as the current SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder. well done Peyto

Both Jazi Coventry and Ella Wooldridge lined up in the Senior Female race. 2 contrasting athletes where Jazi is a dominate swimmer and Ella the swim her weakest leg. Jazi went straight to front and led the swim. Ella had a good start but got caught up in a bit of turbulence with other swimmers and got out of the water 1.15 behind Jazi.

Onto the bike and Jazi was controlling out in front. She was joined by a Victorian and the 2 of them worked really good over the 5 lap technical bike course to exit together with a lead over the 2nd pack.

Ella had to make up and push the bike course. After the first lap she was 40 secs down to Jazi and only 20 sec off the 2nd pack. She was taking time out of all the riders on the course. Unfortunately she came down just after the start of the 2nd lap. Just pushed it too hard and paid the consequences. At this stage she was in 13th spot. In true Ella style back on the bike and continued to chase hard.

Onto the run and both Jazi and Ella had great runs. Jazi had the fastest run of the day to consolidate her lead and was never in trouble out the front and went on to take out the National Title. Ella had the 2nd fastest run, only 3 sec behind Jazi, to end up in a sprint finish to take out 6th place. Well done Jazi and Ella

In the Mixed Team Relays, Peyton added another National Title with a win in the Junior Mixed Team, while Jazi 2nd All Age Mixed Team and Ella 3rd Senior Mixed Team. In the Aquathlon Mixed Team Relay, Heidi Craig was 12th.

It was great to see so many SCTA athletes and families come down and support Peyton, Jazi and Ella. it made a huge difference for them out racing. I am very fortunate to have a great culture within SCTA where they came down and support each other. Yes it is an individual sport but these results are from the support and help, not just from the sidelines, but also from the training environment. A massive Thanks from the Coach

Massive weekend of racing for the 70.3 athletes with them at 3 different races with Port Mac 70.3 where Zsolt Dallos had a great race to claim 8th 35-39 and Scott Gross 32nd 30-34. Over at Busso for the Australian 70.3 Champs saw SCTA Club Member Kierra Sansome take on a quality field to come away with 7th Pro Female, while Marion Tuin lined up at Riccione where the day had a bit of everything with Sun, cold temps and a Hail storm in the mix where she came away with 11th Pro Female in a very strong European Field

At the Milne Bay 7km Run Challenge, SCTA / PA Junior scholarship Holder Macey Roberts took the charge for the females to take out the win on a very tough course where she was 2nd overall. In the Teams challenge, Macey's Team finished 3rd Overall

The rain fell for the Bermuda WTS where SCTA Club Member Ryan Fisher finished 19th in a very competitive field.

At the QUT 5km Classic Run, Chloe Turner lined up against a very talented female field to record one of her fastest 5km since resuming back racing to finish 6th Elite Female in 19.22

Ewen Maddock Dam was the venue for Race # 3 of the Allez Sport Cross Country Series. Michael Hooper continued his strong running with a 2nd U/40 10km, while the birthday Girl Maddi Dutton was 5th U/40 6km and Jessica Lee was 7th U/40 10km.

Over the Easter weekend the Craig Family went back to Gladstone for Easter and competed in the Gladstone Harbour Festival Fun Run over the 3km distance. Coach Toby set a handicap time with Heidi getting a 2.5 min time allowance. Peyton took the race win out with a 9.47, which meant Heidi needed to run faster than a 13.17 in which she did 12.57 to take out 1st Sub Junior Female and 3rd Female overall. Heidi has the bragging rights till next years run.
