What was a very hectic weekend resulted in some awesome results from the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes with the SCTA Juniors at the Queensland Schools Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships, but also at QTS # 7 at Raby Bay and Tweed Coast Enduro.

Firstly at the Queensland State Schools Triathlon and Aquathlon Champs in Hervey Bay which saw 4 SCTA Juniors selected in the Qld Team with 1 reserve to compete at the National Schools Triathlon Champs in Penrith in April. SCTA has a proud history at this event with at least one junior selected in each Qld team for the past 15 years. This year continued the tradition and takes the tally to 47 athletes in total.

Romy Wolstencroft (Senior Female) the defending champion from last year, showed her intentions early with an amazing swim which saw her contact with the leaders. After 4km on the bike she led and dominated the cycle leg. When it came to put the running shoes on she showed her class with a blistering 19.45 5km run split to take the title for the second year winning by 1min 35 sec.

Kaya Shults (Intermediate Female) only having her arm out of plaster 9 days earlier, had a solid swim (apart from dropping her swim cap and had to go back to get) but quickly got going on the cycle leg to move to the front. Out on to the run course Kaya held strong only getting passed in the last 500m and just missing the podium with a 4th place and Qld Team Selection. (last year result 5th place Intermediate Female)

Ryan Marsh (Junior Male) didn't have one of his greatest swims, but capitalised on a strong bike leg that saw him come off the bike in 2nd place. After the first lap of the run he was sitting in 3rd place but faded a little to take out 5th place to qualify for the Qld Team. 23 seconds separated the first 5 place (last years result 31st Junior Male)

Jazzy Shults (Junior Female) In her first outing at the Qld Schools Champs Jazzy had a great swim to be in the first couple out of the water. She dropped a few places to come off the bike in 9th place only to run herself into 7th place. One of the girls in front pulled out of the team and Jazzy got her position. First of the girls a year younger across the line

Emma Dann (Intermediate Female) crashed her bike 2 weeks before the race which require 8 stitches in the Knee. It wasn't the ideal prep for her with limited training due to the knee, but she moved thru the field on the bike and run to finish 12th with the stitches still in. (last year result 32nd Intermediate Female)

Meg Roberts (Senior Female) in her last year at Schools Tri, had a solid day out. after a good swim for her, she was strong on the bike and had a good run to finish off.

Macey Roberts (Intermediate Female) stepping up from Junior category gives her all every time she races. An extremely hard worker in training and improving all the time. Macey had a strong cycle run combo to run down a few of the girls in front of her to finish 18th place. (last year result 12th Junior Female)

Matthew Nixon (junior Male) was his first appearance at the School triathlon champs and had a good day out against some seasoned competitors. Always a hard age group with 1 year difference in age. Matthew finished 36th.

Unfortunately Jake Hynes and Kayleigh Foster were unable to start. Jake is still suffering with bruising on the bone from his hyper extension of his knee from January race. We put in an exemption form to be available for selection into the team and they gave him the 1st reserve spot.

Kayleigh was involved in a bike crash on the Tuesday were she broke her collarbone and was unable to take her spot on the line. Kayleigh had been in good form and it was a shame that she wasn't able to start. But she has a couple more years to go so she will be back next year with a vengeance.

In the Primary Schools Aquathlon Champs we saw Peyton Craig take out the Title winning by 10 seconds. The week previously he took out the Qld 1km Beach Run at the Qld Surf Life Saving Champs. Matthew Nixon shows continuing improvement with 87th place in a very competitive field that saw Peyton win.

At the Tweed Enduro we had Chris Pye in the 30-34 years where he took out 12th place.

While at Raby Bay the Season Finale of the QTS was held in ideal conditions with a some cloud cover and a light breeze that strengthened as the day went on. There was some strong racing in a lot of the categories as well. Romy Wolstencroft, backing up after Qld Schools, took to the Open Field where we saw 2012 Olympian Emma Jackson racing. Emma took out he win, but Romy had a solid performance to finish 3rd Female and only 20 sec slower than Emma on the 6km run.

Zsolt Dallos (35-39), Jordan Gover (45-49), Ryan Marsh (13 Super Sprint), Rachel James (30-34 Super Sprint) and Mark Corcoran (45-49 Super Sprint) continued their strong race performance with another podium in 2nd place. Tania Gover (40-44) with another 3rd, while Lucy Bowden (25-29) had a solid first race back from injury with a 4th.

Joshua Nixon (5th U/14), Matthew Nixon (5th 10-11) and Parker Duetzmann (6th 7-9) continued with their strong performances in Enticer and Kool Kids
