Another massive weekend of racing for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Hybrid Concepts Australia Athletes competing at World Duathlon Championships in Adelaide and Bribie Island Tri series race # 1

At World Duathlon Championship we had SCTA / Hybrid Concepts Australia Junior scholarship recipient Savannah Wayner lined up in the ITU Junior Female category. After racing on this course a year ago Savannah knew what to expect and how to attack it to get the best performance out of her. She started off well being the dominant runner in the first 5km setting the pace and slowly dropping the girls off the back. Heading into T1 there were 4 girls together, South African, Kiwi, Japanese and Savannah. Once agin she made all the right moves to lead onto the bike.

Unfortunately the girls didn't work well together and were eying each other off. Due to this being Savannah's first World Champs in the ITU Junior she did too much work on the bike. Heading into T2 she lead the charge in and out. It was obvious the eventual winner, South African, had the better leg speed and went on to win the race. With about 1500m the Japanese girl passed Savannah and she could't respond. 55 seconds separated the first 4 girls.

Savannah's qualifying race to be selected in the Australia Team was held on the same course where she went 1:09:03 with the Kiwi girl beating her by 3 mins and finishing 4th (3rd Aussie) this time around Savannah was 6 mins quicker and was 35 seconds behind the kiwi and first Aussie across the line. Couldn't ask for anything more. She gave it her all and finished with a smile. The preparation was ideal with a few health issues that restricted her training but we were able to do what we could and got the result of 4th in the World.

Also a huge thanks to Sue Brown who was part of the ITU Officials for the weekend of racing at the World Duathlon Champs. Her help and sup[port of all the athletes and coaches doesn't go unnoticed. Always smiling and loving what she does. Well done Sue

Onto Bribie Island Tri # 1 we had several SCTA athletes line up in the Long and Short Course events. Kirra Siedel continued her great form with another Race Win in the Opens and finished 9th overall. Also on the podium in the Open Females was Junior Jess Corliss in 3rd place. Great to see Jess back racing and continuing to improve each week as she gets back to training. Melissa Charlton continued her dominance of the 30-34 category with another win as to Marilyn Shrapnel in 65-69 years. It was great to see Olivia Latimer back racing after the birth of her daughter Lakey 5 months ago with a 2nd place 35-39 while Jaryd Hamilton was also 2nd 25-29 years. BJ Brown just missed the podium with a 4th place in 16-17 Years
