The last race of 2019 for the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes were for the Juniors at the First round of the Australian Junior / Youth Triathlon series held over the Super Sprint Race Weekend Format of 4 days of racing with 5 races for the ITU Junior (16-19) and 4 races for the Youth (14-15).

SCTA Had 2 Youth's - Peyton Craig and Mia Wooldridge. While in the Juniors we had - Ryan Marsh, Macey Roberts, Jorja Matthews, Jazi Coventry, Erin and Ella Wooldridge. This format is all about earning points to make the Finals. It doesn't reward being consistent. It is about skills and implementing them into each various races as the days progress staring on Thursday and culminating on Sunday with the finals. Top 18 in all categories made the A Final / 19-36 the B final / 36-54 Final. If you had no points it went on overall time. It can be quite strategic to gain points as sometimes the effort doesn't equal points.

ITU Junior - Male 91 competitors / Female 62 competitors
Race # 1 - 1500m Track Run
Race # 2 - Ultra Sprint Tri - 300/6/1.2
Race # 3 - Aquathlon 400m swim / 800m Run
Race # 4 - Mixed Team Relays
Race # 5 - Hyper Sprint - 200/4/800
Race # 6 - Grand Final  - 400/8/1.6

ITU Youth - Male 52 competitors / Female 26th competitors
Race # 1 - 1500m Track Run
Race # 2 - Hyper Sprint - 200/4/800
Race # 3 - Aquathlon 400m swim / 800m Run
Race # 4 - Mixed Team Relays
Race # 5 - Grand Final  - 300/6/1.2

Due to a massive storm hitting the Race Venue on Friday the 13th Afternoon where 133mm of rain fell and demolished quite a few of the club tents and the race venue, the racing was called off. The mixed team relays were abandoned and the rest of the racing continued on the Saturday.

Ryan Marsh - SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder
First Year junior racing boys up to 3 years older. Always tough stepping up into this category, but Ryan learnt a whole new level that he can go to in his racing. He bit the bullet and had to chase time and time again as his swim leg continues to improve. The one thing we know is that he has his T1 down pack and made up plenty of time in this area in all his races. His 1500m run of 4.14 is a new PB. MVP of the weekend in how he fought and found that new level to climb to. The belief is starting to come and you are backing yourself when you thought you couldn't push harder. Test those limits! He is looking forward to the traditional distances in Race # 2 and Race # 3.

Ella Wooldridge - SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder
Always going to be difficult with Year 12. Juggling the exams, assignments and the mental stress that goes with it all. We have school done now and can build on a few key things like her swim that will propel her further with the longer races. With 2 new PB 's in both her 400m swims in the races gives us that platform to build on. Her strengths lies on the Cycle and Run and will see vast improvements as the distance increases. Performances lies in the consistency and swim swim and swim

Peyton Craig
Last years Youth B winner. So to come back and have everyone chasing and out for his title, was always going to be interesting to watch. The word Dominate and flexible came to his racing over this format. The experience from last year and that growth showed Peyton controlling races, and knowing when to go and when to sit. Keep pushing those limits. He won all 4 races and controlled the Youth A Final to come away with back to back titles.

Erin Wooldridge
When you struggle to convert what I see in training into the racing arena and what you are capable of, it is not only frustrating for the athlete, but also the coach. We saw glimpses of what she is capable of, but in the Final it just came together. The attacking on the bike and the strong run off the bike had her sister chasing but not making any inroads into her to take out the B final.  Its there, its just converting on game day. Believe

Mia Wooldridge
The bottom of the Youth Age Category. You know what you will get with her and that is a fight. She chased in all her races. With a new PB in the 400m swim shows she is getting closer to the front girls. Another year of growth and swim progression and we may see this runner turn into a swimmer / runner.

Jorja Matthews
After a few sub par performances that left her very disappointed, Jorja had to dig deep and see where that level she needed to compete to be competitive. She gained a lot of confidents out of the racing where she a had a really good dig and found a new level of hurt. Just need that consistently done on a regular basis and we will see her come good at the back end of the season. The Belief and fire is back. Lets build on it and see where it takes you.

Macey Roberts
Just a good honest account of your character over the past 4 days. Macey you get in there and give 110% each time. And you do it with humility and a respect of your fellow competitors, club mates, family and Me as your Coach. I couldn't ask anymore of you and you do it with a  massive smile on your face. Keep being you and never change that.

Jazi Coventry
Always thankful and smiling. I know I am not your full time Coach and when we do get to the races I am there as a mentor for you. You take in what I say and appreciate the guidance that is on hand. Another great weekend of growth and development. Keep working that bike and the skills.

Well done to all that competed. Full results below

Racing is a fun way to develop our flexibility and endurance. It is a fun way to build new friendships as we socialize to the different contenders in the game. We should give value to the people that we meet along the way in the journey for they contribute to our character. We owe it to these people so let us be strong as we finish the game. Whether we win or lose, at least we did our best.
