Another 2 weeks of action for Sunshine Coast triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at Allez Sport Cross Country Series Race # 5 and # 6, Dutch 70.3 Championships, Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, Sunshine Coast Regional Cross Country, Queensland Mountain Running Championships, ITU Osaka Asian Cup Sprint and Cairns Ironman (Asia Pacific Champs) and Cairns 70.3

Cairns Ironman doubled as Asia Pacific Championships. Fast a furious racing with the added bonus of Kona slots was always going to make this race an important one. A choppy swim that saw slower times, a strong wind on the bike meant it was going to be a good slog for the last 60km home from Port Douglas and a humid run made it interesting.

SCTA had 3 representatives in the big race. Leading the charge was Tahlia Paskin with a strong cycle time that saw her leading the 25-29 years off the bike. A tough run saw her hold onto 3rd spot. With 2 slots on offer both girls in front took their place for Kona. Tahlia finished in 10:20:17 and 19th Female Overall.

SCTA Club Members Hannah Blanchett had a strong debut at an Ironman finishing off with a strong run saw her pass a few competitions to finish 5th 25-29 in a  time of 11:03:38 along with Timmy Hortz that saw a very competitive 30-34 category that he lined up against but powered to the finish line in a time of 9:45:32 and 14th.

In the Cairns 70.3, the charge was led by SCTA Club Member Simon Hearn, who didn't just win the 25-29 Years, but recorded the fastest overall time. Erin Reid had a solid day out with a 8th (40-44) along with Dan Collins 10th (40-44) while Grant Elliot had a strong race with 71st (45-49).

While in Japan, SCTA Junior Scholarship Holder Romy Wolstencroft, lined up in her debut Elite ITU race at the Osaka Asian Cup race. Over the draft legal format she led the 2nd pack off the bike and posted the fastest run on the day to finish 8th Elite Female.

The SCTA Juniors had a day out in the Sun at the recent Sunshine Coast Regional Schools Cross Country Trials. With 6 being taken from each age category to compete at the Queensland Cross Country Championships to be held on the same venue as the Regionals at the Maroochydore Cricket Fields.

Race wins went to Ryan Marsh (15 Years), Anastasia Heikkila (18-19 Years) and Peyton Craig (13 Years) and rounding out selection in the team was Mackenzie Ofield with a 4th (14 Years). Great runs also just missing out on selection in very competitive fields were Kayleigh, Tommy, Pipi, Heidi and Romana. Well done Juniors

Race # 5 and # 6 of the Allez Sport Sunshine Coast Cross Country Series saw some great results from the SCTA crew. Peyton Craig continued his dominance with race wins in both races over the 3km, Olivia Latimer claimed 1st and 2nd at both races, Jessica Lee continued her great running with a 2nd and 5th. The ever consistent Macey Roberts took 4th and a 3rd while Ron Craig 5th and 8th.

From Race # 6, Gary Turner had a win in 6km, with Meg Roberts 2nd in 3km while Selena Corcoran was 3rd in 10km. Mackenzie Ofield 4th in 4km with Heidi Craig 5th in 2km

In the 6 Race Series we had Peyton Craig Series Winner U/14 Male. 2nd Places went to Jess Lee (U/40), Olivia Latimer (40-49), Gary Turner (70+) and Meg Roberts (14-29). Macey Roberts 3rd (U/18) Well done to all that competed over the series.

At the Queensland Mountain Running Champs, Nicholas Hull's last minute entry paid dividends with him taking 3rd overall and 2nd in OPEN Males, competing over 13.3km course.

Marion Tuin was backing up from her overall win at Mallorca 70.3, competing at the Dutch National 70.3 Championships. A solid race saw her finish 5th Female overall behind a few Professional Female

One of the hardest races on the Calendar was staged at San Francisco with the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. With freezing cold waters, hilly bike course and sand running and the infamous sand ladder climb, SCTA Club Member Ryan Fisher took part. Unfortunately a puncture put him out of contention but went on to finish 11th Professional Male.

Well done to all that raced. Full results below

It's true that if you have your friends with you who have the same goal as you, you will always have the reason to move forward, and that's what I saw in you. Joining triathlon will always be one of the most tiring and perspiring activities a person can join to, that's why I have a high respect to people who chose to enter the field. You see, you keep on achieving things with your friends. That's the product of continuosly supporting each other.
