Another big weekend of racing for Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes in action at Townsville Triathlon Festival, Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival, Botanical to Bridge Fun Run in Gladstone and Peter Schultz Swimming the English Channel.

Firstly the English Channel where Peter Schultz crossed in 11hrs 58 min. With conditions pretty choppy to start of with he settled into his rhythm and in true grit and style got to the finish riding the currents and tides. It was a waiting game since last Thursday when he knew he was the next to go. Waiting for a tail end of a hurricane to pass thru so he could get his opportunity.

Peter relocated to Sydney to follow this dream and has given up a lot to physical be ready for this. He hasn't had a hot shoer in over a year. Pilot Pete was a regular at the SCTA noon swims before heading to Sydney. From all at SCTA we would like to say well bloody done mate. An amazing achievement and a great journey. Well done legend.

Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival, which included the Marathon, Half Marathon (Australian Champs), 10km, 5km and 2km dash for the kids. There were several athletes out there from SCTA that recorded some great efforts.

In the marathon, Jason Shortis had a strong run to break the 3hr barrier and to win the 45-49 Category. The ever consistent Doc, Kate Gazzard, had solid run for 2nd 35-39 in 3:18. Great to see the battle of the big boys out there to between Kev Hammond and Grant Cunning as well.

In the Australian Champs for the Half Marathon we had some great performances in some extremely competitive age groups. Michael Woodcock (45-49) and Kendall Fettell (25-29) both finished 4th with Matt Duncan 6th and Nicholas Hull 7th both in 25-29. Clayton Fettell (30-34) was 8th.

Gary Turner 5th (65-69) and Warren Venaglia 9th (55-59) both had great runs in the 10km, while in the 5km Category wins to Maureen Cummings (55-59) and Julie Coote (60-64). Richie Lewis 3rd (30-34) ran strongly pushing the pram amongst the crowd and shoed exceptional U-turn skills with the pram and the turnaround mark. Zoe Davis 8th (5-10) had a great run as well.
\
Gladstone hosted the annual Botanical to Bridge Fun Run where we saw Chloe Turner on the comeback trail after several years off due to sickness. She dominated the Open Female where she took out the race win and to finish 12th overall in the 8km event.

Not to be outdone. Peyton Craig lined up in the 3km to win the Primary school division and be 3rd overall. Not bad for a 12 year old and received a bit of prize money too. It was an all Craig Family affair in the 3km with Dad Ron 3rd in Open Male and Ella 5th Secondary schools. Nice work Renee and great seeing you back competing.

Up in Townsville in very hot and humid conditions saw Ryan Marsh enter his first sprint distance, while Jonathan Goerlach with Simon Hearn compete in their last race before heading to the World Para Triathlon Championships in Rotterdam. Jonathan had been up here for a 2 week training camp with Simon (SCTA Athlete).

Jono is a visually impaired athlete with 5% visibility and completes the bike course on a Tandem. Jono and Simon took out the win in  35-39 Years Category and was 3rd place overall. Ryan just missed the podium in 4th place 14-19 and was 8th overall. Not too bad for his first effort at a sprint distance race.

Well done to all that raced. Full results below
