Race Updates

A massive weekend of racing by the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes that were in action at Rainbow Beach Double Tri, Townsville Triathlon Festival, Tokyo Olympic ITU Qualification Event and Mont Tremblant Ironman. 

Each year the SCTA Athletes head to Rainbow Beach to kickstart the season off. It is a great regional event that we will support each year. As a Coach, it gives myself a good indicator to see how the winter base has been laid and the foundations set for the season ahead. We saw the results from the foundation that has been laid during the winter months.

Consistency, persistency and the willing to be better each session saw Lucy Bowden take out the Female race win both days and take the Female Title and secure a bit of pocket money, but also shows where she is heading into her "A" Race at Sunny Coast 70.3 in a few weeks. A great confidence booster for LB. SCTA / PA Junior scholarship Holder Ella Wooldridge chased Lucy on both days to secure 2nd Female Overall (some pocket money too) and the 17-19 title.

In the Overall Men, it is was a great tussle between Brodie Gardner (1st 30-34), Nicholas Hull (2nd 30-34) and Michael Hooper (1st 25-29) racing against the overall winner Luke Harvey. Brodie finished 2nd Overall 28 sec behind Luke, with Michael 3rd and Nicholas 4th Overall.

SCTA / PA Junior Scholarship Holder Ryan Marsh took both wins over the 2 days in the 15-16, after a debrief with the Coach post day 1 saw Ryan come out and implement a few changes that saw him go 1.5 mins quicker and finish 6th overall. It was Ryan's last fine tuning before heading to World Sprint Champs in Lausanne this Wednesday.

Cramping issues on the run forced Peyton Craig out of Day 1, but came back the next day to lead the swim out and put himself in a great position to start the ride with the older boys. Peyton ran strongly to take out the 13-14 and finish 8th overall across the line.

Rebecca Howell has been a consistent figure during the offseason and the weekends racing showed this  with 2 solid days of racing to take 2nd on both days and 2nd overall 25-29. Alana Park, also in the 25-29 raced well for SCTA for the first time with a 4th on day 1 and a 3rd on day 2 to secure 3rd making it a SCTA Trifecta on the podium.

The 25-29 Men didn't disappoint either with another SCTA Trifecta with Michael Hooper taking out both days and the title and 3rd Male Overall. Paul Marchant (2nd both days) and Matt Billington (3rd both days) both had solid races with all 3 boys having their sights on Sunny Coast 70.3.

It was  Quinella for the 30-34 Men with Brodie Gardner (1st both days and 2nd overall both days) and Nicholas Hull (2nd Both days with a 4th overall day 1 and 3rd overall day 2 to finish 4th overall). Ron Craig had 2 solid days of racing to take out 2nd both days in 40-44 and secure 2nd place as he also builds towards the Sunny Coast 70.3.

On Day 1 we saw a few of the SCTA Juniors race over the sprint distance and some for the first time. Some great results were achieved and gained some valuable experience racing overt he sprint distance. Erin Wooldridge was 3rd Female Overall / 1st 15-16, making it a SCTA Female 1st / 2nd / 3rd across the line. Mia Wooldridge (13-14) and Scott Marsh (13-14) both took 2nd places, while Jericho Pogany 4th (15-16) and Jorja Matthews 5th (15-16).

In the kids race we had Billie Elsum take out 2nd 7-9 Girls.

Townsville Triathlon Festival saw a few races being held over the weekend with the OD and the National Duathlon Championships as well. Townsville will be the host of the 2021 World Multisport Championships. Australian Titles were on the line and we had Tania Gover in the 40-44. Tania had a great race to land on the podium with a silver Australian Medal and was the 3rd Female overall.

In the OD we saw Jordan Gover dominate the 45-49 to take out the win, while Tara Partridge had a huge PB to finish 8th 45-49.

On Thursday and Friday, Heidi Craig ran at the Queensland Primary Schools  State Athletics Champs were she ran in the 800m and 1500m for 2 PB's.

SCTA Club Members in action saw Carrie Lester taking the Female Title at Mont Tremblant Ironman finishing 6th overall in a time of 8:48:26. Brittany Dutton was 2nd Female at Townsville Triathlon Festival over the Olympic Distance, while Ryan Fisher was the 2nd Aussie across the line in 18th Place at the Tokyo Test event. He also anchored home the Australian Team in the Mixed Team Relays in 5th Place.
