A very successful weekend by the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy / Protector Aluminium Athletes racing over the weekend at Round # 2 of the Queensland Triathlon Series at Raby Bay in very trying conditions with the torrential rain continuing to fall over South East Queensland.

SCTA had 23 athletes race over the Long Course, Super Sprint , Enticer and Kool kids. We had 12 podium finishers that included 6 Category Wins. Not bad for a small contingent that raced. In the Long Course 6 athletes were in the top 36 overall. In the Super Sprint we had 6 in the top 50 and amongst the female we had 7 of them in the top 50 Female. So as you can see the racing was fast and furious and the SCTA Athletes were amongst it.

The Long Course was over the 900/25/6 format, a weird distance but was great to see the crew get amongst it. Michael Hooper led the charge with a win (20-24) and 12th Overall. He is starting to find that form and is improving on from his World Champs Campaign. Jordan Gover took the win as well in the 45-49 despite having an argument with the road where the road came out on top. Pauline Ashley had another strong performance to land on the podium in 3rd 45-49. Lucy Bowden stepped up into the Open Female for this round and was with the placegetters on the bike. She went on to finish 6th Open and 6th Female overall. SCTA Club Members competing  Rio Olympian Ryan Fisher who was 3rd Overall and Paul Marchant who won 25-29.

In the Super Sprint, Chloe Turner (25-29) 9th Female Overall, Tania Gover (40-44) 20th Female Overall and Gary Turner (70-74) all had great races to land on top of the winning dais in their respective categories. SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holder Peyton Craig was 25th Overall and took out 2nd U/13, while Ella Wooldridge (16-19) 8th Female Overall and Kelly Enright (30-34) both got 3rd places on the podium. In the Kool Kids Mia Davis (7-9) raced extremely well to land her first ever podium with a 3rd.

On the weekend of 30th September, SCTA / Protector Aluminium Junior Scholarship Holder Peyton Craig raced the Agnes Waters Triathlon where he not only took out his category win U/16 Male but also winning the Enticer Overall.

During the recent Schools holidays Anastasia Heikkila participated in the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships and the Australian Orienteering Championships from 29th September to the 2nd October.

Her is Tasha's race report "On the 28th of September, I flew to Adelaide as a part of the Queensland Schools Orienteering Team with 20 other orienteers. We competed in a 9-day carnival which consisted of two sprint orienteering races approximately 3km in distance each, two middle distance orienteering races approximately 5km in distance each, three long distance orienteering races approximately 7km in distance each and two orienteering relay races approximately 5km in distance each.

I finished 14th overall in the senior girl’s category and 11th out of the Australian girls. It was an exhausting yet fun 9 days of racing which saw the Queensland team finish 4th overall behind New Zealand, ACT and Tasmania". Well done Tash

Well done to all that raced. Full results below

Before anything else, I want to congratulate everyone who joined the triathlon event and won an award. To those who failed to get an award, they should not worry because there's always a next time to everything! To the winners I know that you did your best. You must have dedicated the race to someone who matters to you, that's why you got the award that you deserve. Well, I am not surprised that you emerged as one of the winners. You deserve it because you're not just a fast runner, you're an amazing person as well!
